For the engine I changed it to straight 40wt Delo 100 which is specially formulated for Detroit diesels. The truck hasn't been driven off road since it was rebuilt. It is very clean on the underside and I plan only on road use.
I somehow missed Swamp Donkey's post until now. He hit it on the...
This problem kept us from taking the truck to an event yesterday and my son and I are at the limit of our understanding. So I'm asking for help.
The left rear turn signal does not work. Every other lighting function does. Brake lights work, the front left turn signals work, the right side all...
We can only give what we think and our opinions and I truly appreciate that from those that posted.
My truck was originally built in 1984. The properties that are built into todays oils are improving all the time whether we change to an improved version is a choice we need to make. That is why...
Thanks Floridianson, Cool is good, excessive heat is bad. That is all I really know about transmissions and oil. My problem is I haven't run my HEMTT in different seasons/conditions to know if I have affected a change in temperature by a change of oil. I hope others report their results.
I believe in keeping it simple, but I don't like the stupid. I can see where the military wants one oil, or one fuel to fit all, but they can afford the consequences or lay a heavy hand on the manufacturer to keep their lucrative contract. The fact that they can drop in a rebuilt detroit in a...
Thanks simp5782 for your thoughts and the links. I just talked to a couple of guys in my club that have this transmission in their trucks(not HEMTTs) and they run 5-30wt. They said that is what the military runs. Nothing is very clear to me on this. They also said that 3 drain and fills would...
I will also add in response to Csm Davis, I have no maintenance records on the truck. So I don't know what oil is in there. I have seen it stated that all transmissions came with allison approved oil when new, not the military approved oil. There was a hint of pink on the dip stick when I wiped...
I'm not switching to Dextron. I'm switching to the Allison recommended oil TES295. Like I said in my 1st post... I'm not sure what oil is in there. It only looks like motor oil to me. My oil level is just at the bottom of the stick when running cold and only a little higher when hot running. I...
Those numbers of quarts would be for a new transmission or a rebuilt one that is dry. A used transmission will not fully drain. I'm wondering how much will drain and what will that 15w40/TES295 mix be like. Allison says only to drain and refill again after running 30 minutes with the end result...
I've got an unknown oil in the transmission. It looks like motor oil, if I was to guess. It's a very dark amber color. I've read that Allison recommends to drain the transmission, and put on a new filter, then fill with TES295. Then run for 30 minutes, then repeat, which then should give about...
SB645 passed the State Senate, passed the House and was signed by the Gov. It includes HMMVW's to be considered special interest vehicles, so they can be driven on the road to events, parades, cruise in, or a sunday spin. It takes effect 1/1/2018.
Does anyone know the napa or delco number for the starter solenoid? I couldn't find it in the Wiki. I'm looking for the solenoid on top of the starter. I believe it is activated by 12 volts but handles 24v. I have a 24v direct drive starter. Thanks
I hadn't thought about the air capability or the air requirements of the trailer. Do all air brakes require the the same amount of air? Three axles would require more air than 2, but do lighter axles use less air? Nothing I would haul weighs more than 30k. Would the M51 handle a 15 ton trailer?I...
I know it is slow, and that doesn't bother me. I'm wondering if it will tow a 20ton tag trailer with a 15 ton load. Considering everything including brakes on it and the trailer are in good shape, will it do that? what is it rated for? I know the M35 is only rated to tow 10K and it can pull...
I wouldn't consider a flat tow unless the 5 ton had brakes. Then I'd be tempted if a deuce was all I had,but that is just me, I couldn't recommend it. Your location tells me there will be hills, if not mountains. Your deuce will not be moving very fast on any incline, if you make a video, think...
I think $500 is too much for an unknown transmission even if it was already pulled. I would install a used one, if I knew it's history, but unless you need the practice replacing them I'd opt for a rebuilt one with a guarantee.
I haven't forgotten to check for the bypass in the recently slave jumped M1009. There is 6 inches of snow on the hood that has taken me out of the mood for now. I'm almost certain I've jumped it and others successfully. The batteries may have had a low charge, and probably were not totally dead.
The old gasser 5 tons were converted to Macks. Not many of the gassers are left, but they are known to be about as thirsty as they get. I think that was a reason for the conversion along with everything burning one fuel. I have always heard the Mack was a good engine, but I never owned one.
Have you tested the voltage at the GP solenoid? When the resistor is bypassed it must be 12v and not 24v.
dependable, I believe I've started CUCV's with the resistor bypassed with a slave cable. Possibly it won't work if your batteries are so sulfated that they won't allow any current to pass...
