What have you done to your HEMTT/PLS/MK48 this week

Put her to hard work early in the week, hauling scrap from the farm, and moving more logs from the old buildings into the big barns for storage. For independence day we ran ours in a big parade down at our farm near Lebanon, VA. To prep for it, I took the pressure washer to her, and scrubbed...

Jwade, thanks for the clarification, I suppose once I take the top off mine it will be demilled as well.

    Broken Alternator Bracket?

Warhorse, very interesting! Any idea on the total cost for the setup?

    Axle interlock vs 8X8

The -10 is more than a bit confusing on this point, it basically tells you when to use each mode, but not entirely what it does. When looking at the maintenance manual schematics, it seems that the airline for interlock only runs the the two middle differentials, thus lock the inter-axle diffs...

    Axle interlock vs 8X8

You know, I say that, but then I looked at this: It appears that the air line only runs to the first axle of each pair, simply driving the axles at the same speed. Maybe it doesn't have a true locker for cross differential locking.

    Axle interlock vs 8X8

Ok, here's my experience using both, although I'm still not 100% convinced I have it correct. 8x8 - As you would imagine, all axles are powered, differentials are open Inter Axle Diff Lock - I believe this should be simply differential lock, as that seems to be what it does, it's an air locker...

    HMMWV painting

It runs very well! Just need to fix my alternator, as the rear bracket is cracked, and it can't keep a belt tight like that!

    Broken Alternator Bracket?

Warhorse, I would consider it, but I don't think I grasp the advantage of the higher current setup. I understood the 200A setup was the handle heavier electrical loads, correct? I can't see my 998 every drawing more than the headlights.

    Broken Alternator Bracket?

I very well may, it looks like the casting is integral to the body, not the best design in the world. PM me costs for yours!

    Broken Alternator Bracket?

Ok, it will move, and the brackets are there, so the casting is broken. Can the rear part of the generator be replaced, or am I shelling out $400 for a new one?

    HMMWV painting

I might just do that, they look somewhat like captain bars, but I didn't think rank markings were usually put on trucks.

    1992 M998 First Time HMMWV

Red/orange is the glow plug connector. Why you have more than eight is a bit confusing. Perhaps the harness was replaced but not removed?

    Broken Alternator Bracket?

I think I'll take the whole thing out and see if I can sort it out. It almost looks like the smaller aluminum bracket should be part of the generator/alternator, but I can't find a good picture of the rear of the alternator to compare.

    HMMWV painting

Well, she is coming along nicely, Two light passes inside and out with the typical Behr paint in my HVLP air gun after cleaning up the existing CARC. One question, the truck had two parallel bars just behind each front wheel, painted in black. I'm not sure what they signify, and I'm wondering...

    Broken Alternator Bracket?

Going through more through the truck, she's all painted up now and looks nice, putting it back together etc, but my alternator moves around like crazy! Seems that something might be broken or loose on the back end. One of our fellow SS members mentioned that they do break, but is this one broken?

    1992 M998 First Time HMMWV

Those look like glow plug connectors, which is very odd, since they appear to be hooked up, and plus it actually will start. The seats are normally like that, the cover parts of the bed double as seat backs, but it may very well have been a four man at one point.

    M1123 Purchase Experience

So with these trucks, they originate from the Marines, who buy them from AMG, correct? When we say they are "built" by Black Dog Customs, what does that even mean? Does Black Dog buy them surplus, completely cut them up, and then rebuild them from the ground up?

    HMMWV Arrived

Well, I replaced the other seven with new ones and she fires right off. I probably won't mess with the eighth for now, although I would like to remove it one day. Does it hurt anything having one non-functional glow plug? These indirect ignition diesels are a little new to me. Does that cylinder...

    Price for HMMWV with title

I don't want to stray into the on road titling issue, and I agree, an insurance company is going to anyone to the wall on something like this if they work it all out. Vendors in the market have elevated prices, so you may get more. Is this one of the older Marine sales trucks from the 1990s?
