Wow - somebody just got an awesome deal
That BTR-40 only went for $12k !!
Maybe I should have went ahead and bid.
Less than half of what I paid for mine - man that made the bottom drop out of my stomach:cry:
Do we know who got it?
Seller said 11,700 lbs - seems about right - I have not weighed it myself.
Only thing bad is that it has the larger GAZ-66 tires which hurts the turning radius and load carrying ability.
BTW - could probably use your Jazerka this year. There is some possibility for Blue Air:(
Trust me - if I was not making 2 house payments right now - I would be going after this BTR-40 as well.
That way I could have a pair:)
As for road speed - not sure what thier issue was/is.
I drove mine the 105 miles from my old house to my new one.
Did ~50mph most of the way just fine...
Same one as he posted. Got it from John and Larry over at Track Kickers | Registered ATF Importer of Military Vehicles
They have a lot of cool toys!
I am going to try and avoid the getting stuck part -it no longer has its winch in the nose for self recovery:(...
Today the APC fairy arrived at my house
What was that? Better check it out!

BTR 40 - a set on Flickr
Picked up a UniMog load of storage boxes about a week ago from Scott AFB, IL.
This is the second lot of stuff I have picked up there. Both times the GL guys and the DRMS warehouse staff there has been friendly and helpful.
Not much goes through there but if it does you can plan on the staff...
It is a bunch of levers and the shift pattern is strange.
In the center console area you have a lever for the PTO, fwd/reverse, 2wd/4wd/4wd w/locked diffs, the transmission and then the E-brake
You have 1st through 6th gear forward. 1st and 2nd are super low and are sort of seperated from...
And my favorite gets a close up ;)
And then this weekend the UAZ had a brushguard installed
It definately makes the UAZ look better.
Cannot figure out how to use the IMG code on this forum to make these show pics instead of links:(
404 model - Gasoline 6 cylinder Mercedes M180 engine.
I think that is a Swiss version.
Price - not sure what anything is going for anymore - seems to be all over the board depending on the Seller's whims.
BTW - I love my 404 - it is challenging to drive but very fun:twisted:
To be honest - you will likely have to get any spares from overseas.
I have a UAZ 469b and a GAZ69A and all parts I have needed came from the Ukraine, Germany, Poland etc.
There are a few places that can help get them Vermont Unimog and ColdWar Remarketing for example but I am pretty sure...
It would be another addition to the East Wind motorpool.
Turns out the East Germans used them up until the end so it will work for East Wind to haul the NVA troops around.
It would need a new paintjob.
I am not intending much "offroading" in the rock crawler or muding sense.
Going across...
Does anybody have the Travelers form numbers or contact info for Travelers for the policy they are getting through Gulfway?
I have had two different brokers calling all over Travelers and cannot find anybody there that has a clue about the Commercial with Collectors Choice - or anything like...
That is the one that I am looking at and got me on this track.
I got some info from the www.russianmilitarytrucks.com forum
One of the guy's dad used to drive them and he made some calls as well.
Here is what I have learned:
- underpowered offroad and slow
- low ground clearance...
OK - looking into the possibilty of a BTR-40 to add to my motorpool.
One thing that worries me is the official reports of "poor off-road requirements"
I have not found what that really means. Is that compared to a GAZ69 or a T-55? What did/does it not do that they determined was needed...
