Wow, they look great! I can't remember which vendor I bought them from, but I bought a set of rivets when I restored my last plates. I just did a quick search for data plate rivets - http://www.dataplates4u.com sells them.
This is the type you need to use...
Who did you buy your plates from? Every time I have bought new ones they came with the correct ones. It slips my mind who I bought them from though. I would call around to everyone that offers repro plates.
Pretty sure all of them come from Vintage Wiring, but can't prove it. Every once in awhile you'll find one on ebay but you run into the same problem of aged wire. You can convert an M35 front harness to the M38 and a1, but it is a lot of work. This option can be a lot cheaper if you find a cheap...
I totally understand - if I would've known I woulda be buying another a1, I wouldn't have sold all of my parts (rims included). Parts vehicles are starting to get scarce around here too. Hope you have some good luck on originals.

It's your call, but I would go with M38a1 wheels. Although the combat wheels look cool, they weren't used on M38a1s (that I have found or heard of). Also, you will need to run flaps in the M38a1 wheels also. When ordering wheels, make sure you buy the correct ones for your a1. Tigers is a...
Yeah, I practised on the small parts and floor before I painted the dash. Turned out pretty good - as good as my Gillespie on my other Jeep! I'm sold.

I can tell you that it needs to be cut a lot using a regular paint gun with a 1.7mm nozzle. I'm sure a 2mm would be better, but I didn't see one at Harbor Freight. The gun also needs more cleaning using Behr - a regular gun with a smaller nozzle starts spraying weird very quickly. I am in the...
Fingers crossed, but I am scheduled to be off (on my new job) that weekend! First time in 4yrs that I don't have to take vacation for this rally.

Going to bump this thread again. Planning on opening up a couple of gauges (temp and fuel) in the next week or so to clean them up. I have a couple of questions. What are the lenses made of, lexan? And second, is there anything that you can repaint the needles and ticks with to make them glow...
I observed a bunch of drivers still in their vehicles that I personally asked to go to the meeting. By the time they showed up, the meeting was almost over. Briefings mean nothing if everybody doesn't know what's going on.

Made it mobile again and actually got to drive it up and down the driveway a few times! Check out the redneck gas tank. And my rebuild blog: http://m38a1usmc.wordpress.com
Here's a YouTube video of it (roughly)running.

I just got back from Home Depot with a gallon of Behr Marquee exterior 24052! The color looks like USMC green, but I won't know for sure until I spray some.
Last time I went the guy couldn't find the number (a couple of years ago). Kind of pricey, but cheaper and quicker than ordering it...
