Hi all.
To start with, thank you for the existence of this forum. I haven't been around here too long or spent much time in the other subforums but there seems to be a very high signal to noise ratio within the FMTV community, and a number of very knowledgeable people willing to share and...
From the linked doc:
"If using dynamic balancing (e.g. ball bearings - be sure to use something that won’t clog the CTIS), a ratio of 1oz to every 13lb of tire works well."
So with ~350 pounds of wheel and tire, 350/13*1 yields ~27 ounces or ~1.68 pounds of media.
Does that sound about correct?
Donaldson PSD10's. I don't really have a build thread here (yet). It struck me as a place for more OE-oriented vehicles. The more time I spend here, the more it seems like the full spectrum of conversation is appreciated so I will likely get something going soon.
They are Donaldson PSD10's which I copied from the Blissordie build. I think they were ~$500 for the pair through an auction vendor, and about twice that at a normal retailer. I bought the elbows and tube and fabbed my own pipework.
All I did to make the red cab version was cut off the stuff that I wouldn't be needing and match the measurements I took on my own 1088 for the wheel bases and tire O/A dia. I think I verified the track width as well but don't specifically remember. The red cab is just the camo cab with the...
I bought it in July, finally got it set up (swapped tires, blanance/rebuilt driveshafts, removed spare & OEM intake, fabbed new intake, removed 5th wheel/decking, relocated hyd controls, relocated trans cooler), registered, and most importantly- legally insured (through Progressive as a private...
No worries, happy to help but better dimensions would make it a more useful exercise.
You can pick one of these and slice off the chassis if you're just looking for the cab:

When I measured the model, the wheelbases were off for the 1088 and the...
Using the data off the .jpg's has the structural components located in unlikely areas. Putting this together won't be difficult, but without accurate measurements, the model will be inaccurate and the details useless.
For starters, I don't have a definitive wall thickness which makes the wall...
To be reasonably accurate, if someone could give coordinates to locate and properly size the windows, as well confirm the width of the studs in the wall along the longitudinal and transverse axes.
Also missing is the actual length, width and height of the box.
How much detail are you seeking? Just a box with "X" thickness walls and a door in a specific place? I could knock that out in a few minutes if you provide dimensions.

Rebuilt all three shafts for my 1088 and it made a world of difference. New yoke/spline for one shaft, balanced all three, all new U-joints. Super smooth.

Had my driveshafts rebuilt, just reinstalled them and got it up to speed- holy crap, what a difference- WAY smoother. I thought my tires were square but vibrations persisted after I changed them. They needed one new spline and a bit of balance work for the rebuild.
I can still feel what I...
All the above are valid perspectives, but not relevant to the info I seek (not looking to start a debate over which construction method is best). My objective is to construct an RV which takes advantage of the platform to get my wife and I wherever we want to go with a certain level of...
Yep, already have the Haynes book. Ulrich's is on my Christmas list and if it doesn't show up under the tree, I will put it there myself.
You're going with a steel skeleton then, with panels adhered or riveted in for the actual wall?
Hi all,
I posted this on ExPo forum as well. I am pondering options for building an expedition camper build and am curious to hear from any home builders who have used steel to build their habitation box. What sizes and thicknesses did you use?
Chassis will be an M1088. Would be interested...
