With some dealers asking $245.00 sets of pioneer tools with straps, their loss or theft is a concern. ( In San Antonio the thieves will steal the copper lines out of church air conditioners!) Sportsmans Guide has some Swedish and Danish surplus shovels for $16.00. I order the used Swedish one...
The 8 bolts are for bias ply tires and the later ones are for radials. The 8 bolts had magnesium runflats and the later ones are rubber. These are my observations; do not have a TM reference handy. The 8 bolt bias plys are not very popular and I was happy to switch to 12 bolt radials. My...
Agree. With 6.2 NA going lighter rather than heavier is best performance-wise. From "wanted parts" posts the trend seems to be adding weight. Driving as is before adding weight seems a good idea
To remove caps I placed a cold chisel at the seam and holding it horizontal to the ground gave it a hit with hammer. The caps popped off with no damage. A friend told me this trick...better than prying, etc
Agree I would not modify the wagon. I have a H1 wagon and M998 soft top. Looks like a lot of work and expense to switch. I think the wagon was the most popular H1 model and still should sell well although recent auction prices may have affected prices temporarily. There were around 12,000...
Don't mean to hog the thread but keep thinking of things to be aware of in buying M151. See the article in June 2015 Military Vehicles Magazine by Steve Turchet, page 20. He tells you how to detect welds and evaluate them if present. Also there other things to check that he covers. Good luck!

Don't forget to check hub temp after a mile or two. Some of these have the spindle nut too tight and get hot. Also the dings are hard to fix unlike a steel trailer. The AL is hardened and will not bend far before cracking. I know! I was able to improve some shallow dents using...
With needle scaler, you need mask, eye and ear protection. It is really loud especially inside a trailer bed or vehicle. I bought one with pistol grip as it looked more comfortable to hold for a period of time. It requires 90 PSI. Can't believe I did not buy one sooner!
Small point but the wheels are the same color as the NOS wheels I bought this year so perhaps newer than the M151. Have looked at your pictures several times and it looks better each time compared to many I have seen advertised. But Fil's questions are important as far as cost/value. (He will...
In Kansas many of the rural fire dept. military vehicles were painted red. I had an M38 that came from a surplus auction but the engine compartment was still OD. Also M38A1 that all OD.
Another option is a needle scaler which does not seem to throw the chips far. For areas that have rusted (frame, bumpers, etc) I have used Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator followed by primer and then paint. Over 2 years and no rust through on treated areas.
Good looking trailer! Looks complete, LED marker lights, shackles, strap for can, support legs, etc. I have bought several as I feel they are bargains. There is a good market now for the wheels if you decide to go smaller and lighter. The CD manual is a nice bonus...buy a lottery ticket!
The radials are non-directional. Most of the time the chevrons are pointing forward on the right side and backwards on the left. You can mount them so all the chevrons point forward for "cosmetic" reasons. This is stated in the H1 manual from the 1990s.
Someone stated on another thread that...
Probably not much to do at this time except avoid doing the wire brushing/dry sanding in the future. I wet sanded wearing nitrile gloves and paint mask. Adherent CARC is a good base for paint and you do not need to sand down to bare metal.
