Electrical Gremlins- Won't shut down + Slow crank

The painless harness is an aftermarket generic replacement for the OEM harness. They do often come with a few extra wires that are not needed to add to the confusion. I would botch it up ASAP, LOL!

    CUCV gearing

Skinny is right on with the D60 axle suggestion. I failed to mention it because there is some cost and fabrication involved to make it work on an 09. The 700R-4 and 4.56 combo gives you the best of both worlds, highway cruising speed, within reason, and low end grunt when you need it. The D60...

    CUCV gearing

If you plan on pulling a trailer up steep highway grades the 3.73 gears are still way too high with a 700-R4. At 55 MPH, the engine will be barely running and lugging @1415 RPM. We all know that the 6.2s "sweet spot" is at about 2200 RPM. With 4.11 gears it will run @1715 RPMs and is a much...

Hea Don, Measure the drums to see if they have been cut.

    Radiator M1009

I would go with the Spectra, It has metal tanks, and can be repaired more easily down the road if need be. Im not a big fan of radiators with plastic tanks.

6.2 making a terrible scrapping noise

Take a magnet to the black stuff in the pan and open the filter to inspect for fragments. Your torque converter may have come apart.

Yup, cracked flex plate, forgot that one.

6.2 making a terrible scrapping noise

If it only happens when the truck is rolling, check the front brakes, the pads may be down to metal.

My M1009 Cranks But Won't Start

Hea Vinny, The spin on filter is far more reliable and easier to change. I personally would change out all the fuel lines to avoid any future BS with the fuel system. pawnshop started an excellent thread with detailed instructions and part #s on how to do the spin on filter mod on 06/14/2009...

    M1009 Crankcase pressure increase

Your CDR valve is probaby plugged up with gunk. It can be cleaned, or replaced. The breather cap can be cleaned with brakeclean. If it's missing alltogeather, it can be easily found at a local junk yard. The crankcase pressure is caused by blowby, and is common on all diesel engines. It is no...

My M1009 Cranks But Won't Start

Hea Vinny, It's more than likely a fuel problem. If it stalls again after the filter is changed, you may have a porous fuel line from the tank to the filter. It may not leak, but it could suck air and make the engine stall. I started that engine two weeks prior to selling the parts truck to you...

    Door panel

Ok, I was wrong. The LMC panels do come in colors, and they are sold as sets. To get an exact replica? You might try looking for NOS panels, meaning new, old stock. You will have to search Chevy/GMC restoration parts vendors for NOS parts.

    M1009 engine swap

If that engine was originally painted that color and re painted by the PO, it very well may be an 82 "red block" and an exellent score. The 82 red blocks had a higher nickle content in the casting formula and were less likely to crack. Broken cranks are usually caused by a bad harmonic balancer...

    Door panel

The aftermarket panels are a bit pricy and only come in black anyway. If yours are not cracked or broken, painting them is the way to go.

    700R4 and NP205?

Thanks mijon, just passing along some info I came across a few years ago. The 205 is just about indestructable unless it's run out of oil, or bashed open running over rocks n stuff. I was never a big fan of the chain type transfer cases when they first came out.

    Changing Fluids Tomorrow

Add a 24oz bottle of Lucas Transmission Fix. It has friction enhancers in it and helps prevent trans slip after servicing older transmissions. they sometimes slip with new oil. I would also add a deep pan, More oil helps lower trans temps.

Plowboy, Thats your garage? At first glance I thought it was your house. Lucky man. I would love to live in a place like that where I could take a leak off the porch and not have the neighbors see me, LOL!

    700r4 for my M1028???

Thanks Recovery4X4, I forgot to mention that:oops:. I also failed to mention that the short TH350 "style" transmission output shaft must be used with the old style NP205. Advance adapter part #AAI-50-6900. Either way, The input side on both the 205 or 208 case will have to be changed to 27 splines.
