You are right, there is no need for any hard steel or bronze bushing in the desplined cap. I have machined the splines from the M35 drive caps and i can tell you they are still harden steel there with the splines gone.
I could wright a complete page on this one. I will start with one - "spinning side gear" - where is the gear oil coming from to oil all these moving parts. If the drive shaft is not turnning it and axle is not turnning it, there is NO oil moving moving because the main large drive gear in the...
Not sure where this info. came from but it is incorrect, the A3 is the same spindle as the A2, modified with an air port , they both have a bushings in the spindle.
The very first M35A3 that came available sold for $17,000.00. And the 12,000 and 10,000 and then the flood of them down to 2,800 and then very few left, last week $7,950.00 + fees, with no winch.
I bought this one at warnar robins in 2011 for $1,800.00. Last week two M35A3 sold at the same place, one for $7,950.00 ea. I bought my M35A3 in 9-2011 for $4,500.00 + fees.
Your thinking in horizonal position, these trucks are never horizontally, leaning severely to the right and left and the oil inside piles up, way up inside the axle tube.
Oil bath bearings last up to 5 times longer than grease pack, just through that flat outer seal away and let the bearings run in oil with a premium hub seal.
I need an update, installed V100 axles ( 1 3/4" x 19 spline ) and DT. locker in the rear. Built a complete new front with seals and bearings and V100 axles and DT. locker 1 3/4" x 19 spline. Large disc brakes and warn locking hubs.
Gear oil in the wheel bearings means the outer ( flat seal ) seal has failed, if it is the seal or in the keyway slot. The inner hub seal is not designed to keep the oil in the hub but to keep the environment out, that is why it will leak.
