Even the Chobham armor on a tank like the M1A2 can be defeated. HEDELTA, on this list, drove an M1A1 in Iraq and was hit by an IED that destroyed the tank. Maybe, he'll chime in with his own war story.
I see you've done the calculations just in case! Ha ha. I am sure you got a nice one. If you have not heard, contact Jeff Laumer (262-227-2967) at Fort McCoy. He can help you check over your tractor, or even remove it from the base so you can come on your schedule, not GL's. He has helped me...
You win if your truck was a rebuilt M927 in similar condition. Is your truck rebuilt? If so, apples to apples, you did better. But, the point remains, that I believe that $4400 for a rebuilt M927 is a good deal. Sure, if yours is rebuilt, $2K is much better. Any pics of your truck?
$4,400 is overpaying for a rebuilt M927? Wow. Times change. Or, possibly perspectives change. I am curious what you guys hoped you reasonably would get a rebuilt M927 for.
The data plate right in front of the steering wheel indicates 63 MPH MAXIMUM in 5th gear. With that said, I keep it to 55 MPH. The tires on the truck are radials, not NDCCs, but, still, who knows what we've got unless we replaced the tires ourselves or really inspected inside the tires (which...
There are many horror stories, but, understandably, guys don't advertise them much. You are MUCH more likely to hear the success stories. With that said, I definitely think the chances of success are far greater than ending up with a lemon. Inspecting is wise, as others have stated. Even if...
Bring your tags and at the VERY LEAST insurance. No tags equals a ticket in most states. No insurance is more serious. Or, get it hauled. My $.02. Be careful in thinking that the RRAD rebuilds are completely rebuilt. They tend to reuse as much as they can and that will vary by truck. I...
My brother was in the Army in the 80s (retired in the early 2000s) and he also had an M151A2. I'll have to try to scan his pictures. Thanks for sharing.
This is CORRECT! I know it sounds incorrect, especially since the dataplate indicates the truck will do 63 MPH, but it is right. Does your CTIS work? If so, you may have to deal with it unless you remove the bulb. If the CTIS does not work, just disconnect the wiring going to the back of the...
All great ideas, and definitely more creative than I could offer. My suggestion would be to contact CARNAC or check the classifieds for bows. I have regularly paid about $20 a bow complete (two uprights, two elbows, and a top bow). They are around.
Knowing you :) , I am sure you serviced the truck. If I remember correctly, it was a rebuilt truck, too, so the fuel system should be fairly clean. A clogged fuel filter or a dirty fuel system would rob power. Still, it sounds like your truck should have more power. I wonder if you could get...
Should have also added air-assist steering as another plus. When backing up a trailer in tight, power (air assisted) steering is nice to have. It can also be added to an M35A2.
