New fuel, new filters all around. Be ready for any number of axle seals to let loose and spew gear oil after 50-150 miles. Happens with a lot of trucks that sit. Also, look for brake issues. Fresh diesel is a fine fuel to run at first. Once your home, if you really want to flush the system run...
Sounds like a compression or lack of fuel issue. I would replace every rubber line between the fuel tank and the IP. Also, blow the lines out with compressed air. Could be rusted or have crud in them. When cranking over the engine with the fuel bleed screw open on the filter base do you get a...
Ouch, that would be a bad day....It worries me how many trucks get driven around GL, and even customers picking trucks up without checking the oil...one of these days its going to bite someone.
There are these big plugs called decompression plugs IIRC. Getting em out requires taking the rockers off. Mine were on too tight to break. A rattle gun probably would have done it. You could also take the injectors out. Either scenario requires re-adjusting everything in the head.
My M818 had the oil drained, but all other fluids were intact. I filled it up, and it didn't want to turn over. The engine had a slight bit of rust on the rings I think. 4 fully charged batteries later she fired off. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst!
Replace the lines, then the modulator on the IP. The plastic modulator gets old and leaks. Check for vacuum from the pump. If there is none, or not enough, replace the pump itself. I had 3 pumps die on my CUCV.
It could start and run, but the drivelines may have been destroyed by a forklift. You just never know until you go to the site and Inspect, inspect, INSPECT!
Clutch didn't feel normal at all, so if someone was mechanically inclined they would have been able to tell without running it. Radiator was hit by a forklift, and was visible had I taken another 2 minutes to actually walk around the whole truck. Burp tank was empty, and it had no engine oil. It...
ALWAYS INSPECT! I bought 2 M35A2's without inspecting, and both turned out OK. I bought an M818, with barely looking at (walked by on the lot), and it ended up having a bad clutch, leaking IP, bad radiator, some rust, etc. It pays to go and do a good inspection before bidding. It works out...
I believe the high idle circuit also changes the timing of the IP to allow the truck to warm up faster. IF your hot-wiring it to just have a high idle and not warm up faster, I would put a relay in to by-pass the timing change when simply wanting high idle.
The fuel heater and related seals on the filter base can leak. I also wouldn't rule out a bad mechanical pump, although it sounds like your getting some flow to flush the bubbles out? When I replaced my IP I dropped the tank and replaced every single soft line between the tank and the IP. It was...
Sorry its taken so long for an update. I ended up dropping the tranny. One of the 3 fingers (the same one I mentioned earlier) was broken. This was preventing the clutch from disengaging when the pedal was pushed down. Also, one of the bolts on the TO assembly had come out, and ground between...
I had BFG Mud Terrains on my M1009. 32X11.5X15. Perfect fit, and looked good. Helped tremendously offroad. No rubbing issues, except under EXTREME rear axle flex the tire would rub the inside of the rear fender. But I was really trying...shouldn't be an issue for most situations.
There is a thread around here somewhere I started, but it was the new seals from China that caused the high heat issue....I couldn't find all of the bearing races to bend the seal in a press, so I put a shim in. Not ideal, but it did the trick. This was after replacing bearings + races + seals 2...
treysoucie: Sorry it took so long to reply. My 818 had the following issues:
Destroyed clutch pressure plate. Needed a new flywheel (heat stress cracks, bad), Pressure Plate, and Clutch Dish.
Soft brake lines were cracked, and were replaced with new
Injector Pump leaks fuel (going to the...
