    Thumping / popping while driving...

Or trans mounts, an easy fix, no mechanic needed. Take a pinch bar and jam it between the trans adapter and crossmember and push up, or pull down whatever is easyer, If the trans moves it's the mounts. DIY, save some $$$.[thumbzup]

    Oil cooler lines orientation...

Asmoday, sorry, I was a bit confused when you said "goes into radiator" I was thinking trans cooler lines. Just went outside and checked mine, The oil lines go top fitting on engine to top fitting on cooler and of course bottom to bottom. Top hose goes to the oil sample petcock wich i would...

    CUCV MPG thread

With no exaggeration, my M1031 get's 20+@ 55-60 but thats with a 700r4-banks turbo and 285s wich are adout 32 1/2 in high. The maint box was replaced, sheding approx 600lbs, with a flatbed by the PO along with the trans/turbo. I tend to over lubricate the fuel, 2qts 20/50+8oz of fuel treatment...

What do your neighbors and other drivers think of your CUCV

WOW, A shame about the airport. It's a neat supprise the first time you drive through there. We haven't been down that way in about five yrs. It's a Nice area. WP.

What do your neighbors and other drivers think of your CUCV

jj, I've been driving 222 through Kutztown for years, gonna end up moving to northern Lancaster, probably Ephrata in a year or so. We stopped to take a plane ride in one of those bi wing sopwith camel jobs, uppon closer inspection I chickend out. The girlfriend says "come on it'll be fun" I had...

Guess my cheap m1009 isnt going to be so cheap

I agree with porkysplace, pull it yourself and save some $$$. Depending on your skill level, with some help, you could have it pulled in no more than an hour and a half. When reinstalling be careful and line up the splines so you can mate up the engine and trans by hand, no pulling it togeather...

What do your neighbors and other drivers think of your CUCV

m16ty, If I lived in my hometown of Brewster NY, I would not get a second look, It's a little more upstate, but a lot more rural. In Westchester Co, I live amongst a lot of white collar types that went to collage instead of the military and don't understand the attraction to military vehicles...

What do your neighbors and other drivers think of your CUCV

What kind of reactions do you get from neighbors and other drivers on your CUCV. The neighbor accrossed the street from me HATES IT. On the road I get double takes from the Dodge and Ford guys when they hear my turbo start hissing and thumbs up from Chevy guys, and guys that drove these in the...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Removed and welded broken power steering bracket. Top pivot tab broke cleen through, slide adj under alt split. Probably the cause of throwing both belts a few weeks back, never checked the pump. Have been hearing a buzz from what sounded like a loose heat shield, there are none on my truck...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

natem, I think the Gear Vendors was a good choice, like you said, minimal driveline mods. My 700r4 went bad shortly after i bought my truck and I spent nearly $1800.00 on the heavyest duty rebuild possible just short of a drag strip tranny, thats $1800.00 minus removal and install wich i did to...

    Has anyone?

Hea DeucesWild11, I grew up in Brewster. Worked for Lee Archer and Ziggy Sigqorjonnson back in the 80s. Know a lot of Mahopac people, small world.

    Has anyone?

Maybe a hydrovac master cyl and booster out of a medium duty, on the transfer case, That plunger is probably for a PTO seeing as it was in a tanker. Way cool truck! WP.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

natem, Pricy, You would have spent about the same building a 700r4 the right way, and still worry about having a reliability issue, I did. If I had to do it again i'd go back to the bullit proof th400 and get a Gear vendors unit. Good choice and take lots of pics. BTW, My brother lives up on...

If you could have only one CUCV...

Assuming you have another vehicle as a people mover, I'd have to say the M1031. Mine was modified by the privious owner with a flatbed, sidewinder turbo and a 700r4 overdrive trans. I can cruse 65 easy, but I do not do it often. The suspension is brutal as it was sprung to have a 1000* box on it...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

After failing to chase down the problem with my fuel guage that tested good, I replaced the old sender wich tested bad and still had no fuel guage. After having the dash apart three times, I ended up running a new sender wire to a new 2in 0/90 ohm GM compatible fuel guage. I installed it next to...

    It's TURBO TIME!!!

Unless you have a pipe bender right next to the truck your custom install will be very time consuming. Search the web for a used Banks sidewinder, depending on how complete it is your best bet is to get the piping from Banks. I have yet to see a complete used system with all the pipework intact...

    Delayed engine shutdown

Hea doghead, I ended up just running a switch to it for now. I switched the wires back to run the fan in the right direction, no joy, still ran after i turned off the keyswitch. I'll put a diode on it as you suggested when the weather gets a little warmer this spring. Had other issues with it...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

corelokt, On your previous thread you said u stripped the bolt, u may have broken the tin wing nut on the back of the heater that clamps it to the block. You don't have to crank down on it, just tighten it so it's snug, make sure the freeze out hole is clean and free of rust or scale, use sand...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

edpdx, Im just shy of 5-9, so other than climb into the eng compartment, that step came in handy. I can reach just about everything with it. I was thinking of fabbing a step and bolting it onto the bottom most portion of the grill guard or lower on the lifting shackles, a bolt on setup w no...
