What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I upgraded the 12v bus today with a Blue Sea 100 Amp marine grade bus bar, Pn # 2304. Plastic cover pn # 2713. I will be installing an ST blade remote fuse block pn#5025 to eliminate the need for in-line fuses for accesories. I will post a build thread on this if there is any interest in it.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I have a M1031 with a flatbed that was installed by the PO, Wasn't crazy about the bed at first but it grew on me. It's far more practical for loading large heavy stuff and You won't worry about mashing up the bedsides like on a regular pickup when binding down those items, mine has a gooseneck...

    Speedo reads high- any thoughts?

Tire size has everything to do with an inaccurate speedometer. Higher tires cover more ground per rotation than the stock tires. The speedometer gear in the trans is calibrated to the final drive ratio and the height of the stock factory tires. Mine is all wrong, 700r4+4.56 gears+285/16s=wacky...

    Cucv extreme rattle noise

wired1000, If my math is right you put 7200 mi on your truck since October right? 4qts isn't bad and minor leaks turn into quarts over time. Have you changed the oil over that period of miles? Im a firm belever in frequent oil changes, and it's cheaper than finding an engine that runs as well...

    Cucv extreme rattle noise

There's an adj bolt just above the fan pulley 15mm I think? There's a bracket just below the exhast manifold that u can't see unless u get under the truck and look up at it under the pump. Mine is there, but is not connected to the back side of the pump, there's a gap. Probably a missing part...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I replaced the front output shaft seal on my 205 transfer case. Upgraded to a double lip seal, Quad 4x4 part #QU50124 $23.97 and four bolt flange gasket #TK10514 $4.47. No need to fully remove the front drive shaft, just disconnect it from the shaft flange and put it to the left frame side...

    Cucv extreme rattle noise

AZDeuce, You suspected the ether had damaged your engine, after you resolved the rattling problem, you continue to use ether. I don't get it. Your glowplugs are probably good, your card is more than likely the problem. I removed my card and bypassed it with a momentary contact switch. Stop using...

    Cucv extreme rattle noise

Check your power steering pump bracket for a broken bolt tab. The top tab, where the bracket pivots was broken clean through on mine along with the slide adjuster that bolts to the mount under the drivers side alternator. Had to remove the pump/bracket and weld it back togeather with a wire feed...

After losing a wheel and almost my life...

Mike, Not to be a wise a$$, but did you go over your truck since blowing a rear tire on the freeway? Still got those old tires on it? You cannot just throw plates on these old trucks and hammer them down the highway witthout risking disaster. It's good to hear you didn't get hurt, but that could...

Now how did I do this? Cracked Pistons.

Yea Andrew, Funny u say that, I looked up the conversion and found .75mm = 0.0295275591 IN. close enough for me. .77mm= 0.303149606 in. may be a bit too tight. Are u gonna put a crank girdle on it? No proof they work, but it can't hurt. Don't forget the pic's when u start building. Later, WCP

    Sea Foam?

The "new" ATF has friction enhancers in it now. No study on it, but those additives are probably not good to run through an IP or injectors. I've used Diesel Kleen, Marvel Mistery, ATF, and just last week, Sea foam. Better throttle response and with adding a qt of motor oil to the fuel it calms...

Now how did I do this? Cracked Pistons.

rickf, That .75mm/0.30 was in the craigslist posting, I neglected to put mm after the .75 in my reply. I don't have a conversion table in front of me so I assumed that is what it works out to. Thanks for making a point of pointing that out.

    Black engine oil!?

Mike Zero Niner, Welcome to the mad, mad world of MVs. Keep in mind these are OLD trucks no matter how low the milage may be, or what condition it's in. Your odometer may be correct. If it is, that means it sat more than it was used-26yrs. Uppon receving your truck, u should go over it and check...

Now how did I do this? Cracked Pistons.

Andrew, Sorry to hear about your engine. Like you said, who knows what the GOV did to it. I did a search on some GM diesel web sites and found their answers to your piston cracking question pretty much match what our members here said. Bad injector hydrolocking came up most. Head gasket failure...

    First ever CUCV

It can be done if the rear battery still has somewhat of a charge in it. connect jumper cables to the front battery as you would a 12v vehicle, pos to pos, neg to neg. You will probably have to wait at least ten to fifteen min before attempting to start. If both batterys are dead, the cables on...
