    cooling system maintenence

Re: RE: cooling system maintenence DO NOT use the regular gasoline engine coolants sold at Wal*Mart etc. in a multifuel. You MUST use a coolant marked as suitable for use in heavy duty diesel engines. The HD Diesel coolants have "Supplemental Cooling Additives", aka SCA, to meet the HD diesel...

    Low Mounted Headlights

Also, for what it is worth, my truck has only the last 5 digits of the serial number stamped on the left frame rail in front of the front axle. The "0539" prefix appears only on the data plate!

anyone need a headache rack for their deuce?

Re: RE: anyone need a headache rack for their deuce? OK - I got it. When I think of a headache rack, I'm thinking of something more durable than a troop seat front though.

    Check valve for oil filters?

I'm with Bjorn on this one. I have checked out the Amsoil and FS2000 sites extensively, and that is what they recommend. The bypass filter is restricted to bypass only about 10% of the oil flow, probably less than that on the multifuel considering the high oil flow volume. Since the oil sender...

    Low Mounted Headlights

Interesting - I have a '70 Kaiser Jeep with high mounted headlights and a serial number beginning with 0539, which indicates a '70 Kaiser Jeep with winch. Mine was rebuilt at Toelle in 1989. I suspect the data plate was replaced because the current data plate states WO/W and has the proper NSN...

anyone need a headache rack for their deuce?

A "FIBERGLASS" headache rack? What are we talking about here? All the headache racks I am familiar with are heavy duty steel tube construction to prevent crushing loads on the cab top. Are you talking about a fiberglass CAB top? I don't think fiberglass would hold up as a headache rack.

    11.00x20 on a 9.00x20 wheel?

I'll have to check and maybe take a picture. As best as I can recall, the markings are visible on the inside of the wheels of the outside duals about half way between the bead flange and the wheel dish. Not a real clear description, but a good picture will make it understandable. -- Lee

Looking at getting a Deuce, how much did you get yours for?

OPCOM - Don't feel bad about spending $4500 for a good running truck with good cosmetics. I started out with $2750 for my truck from GL, am probably up to close to $4500 out of pocket, plus a lot more in sweat equity. All these $1500-$2500 trucks were great deals or steals. It all depends on...

    11.00x20 on a 9.00x20 wheel?

My (stock) Deuce rims are marked as suitable for up to 12:00x20 tires. I assume this applies to bias ply NDC/NDCC tires, don't know what is the max radial tire size. Maybe 12:00R20 or 14:00R20. Note that radials ending in .50 (i.e., 12.50R20) are generally SMALLER in diameter and wider than a...

    Differences between 1950's 60's and 70's deuces

RE: Differences between 1950 Definitely M35A2. M35's are scarce, and the multifuel gives you better fuel mileage. "C" turbo if you like to hear the "whistle (I do), "D" turbo if you don't, definitely a personnel heater where you live and a hard top would be preferred for your climate, and an...

    windshield seals

George's phone number at Vermont Commercial Salvage is 802-864-4762. I have bought many items from him and have always been satisfied with the price and quality. He does NOT like emails, phone him for anything you need!

Looking at getting a Deuce, how much did you get yours for?

I got mine from GL at the Selfridge ANG Base in MI. I paid roughly $2750 with the GL bidders premium added in. That is a great price for trucks at Selfridge, anything listed there as "Running Condition" goes from $4000-$4500 or more. It was listed as "running condition unknown", I was able to...

    oil mixed with alcohol

This is just a shrewed, wild eyed guess here, but it is going to depend on the type of alcohol. If is isopropaonal alcohol, i.e., the good stuff which de-ices diesel, I'd mix it to no more than 10% alcohol. If it is methanol or ethanol, I'd limit the mixture to 5% alcohol. No solid scientific...

    Winch disassembly

A suitable amount of C4 or dynamite might help. It has worked 100s of thousands of times to disassemble supposedly unassembelable parts!

Getting 52 M35 6X6 need checklist for title acquirement...

You are basically screwed. A salvage title is assigned to an UNROADWORTHY VEHICLE (either toltalled, flooded, etc.), which the buyer is going to use as scrap or parts for resale. A salvage title can be converted to a regular (roadworthy) title but the requirements vary from state to state and...

    GL M35A-2 in Pineville

Once saltwater gets into the electrical connections (either Packard or Douglas) you are basically screwed. The connections will never work right again until you disassemble each and every one of them, clean them out, and apply an anti corrosive agent to each and every connector. Even then it is...

Generator belts slipping and no room to adjust

Easiest fix without replacing belts is to relocate the primary fuel filter bracket BELOW the upper frame rail. This will give you at least an additional 1/2" of adjustment. If this is not enough, try the belt replacements mentioned above.

    Check valve for oil filters?

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Check valve for oil filters? I'd like to see how you plumb those filters in. Obviously you are using some sort of remote filter base, but how do you intend to get the oil supply and return lines from the stock filter bases to the remote filter heads?
