Of course, many of the flame heater engines were converted to ether start. They don't use a lot of ether, a 13 oz cylinder is good for 200 or so shots. Than figures out to about 2.66 cc per shot, less that 1/2 cc per cylinder. Not enough ether to wash lube oil off the cylinder walls or damage...
Don't know about the price of an oil pan gasket but I got a set of valve cover gaskets off Epay for $12.29 including shipping. You are welcome to these gasket for what I paid plus shipping to you. Personally, with the low oil pressure you describe, my first choice would be to replace at least...
RE: Re: RE: Comset Ideas for Deuce Cab?
I have a ham license, but all I really want to do is be able to communicate inside the cab with my co-driver, so I don't need something as elaborate as the VIC-1 setup. The "Chatterbox" sounds pretty neat, the FRS radio would come in handy in case I had a...
Before you spend $100 for a take out battery, search all the Interstate battery dealers in your area first. I bought brand new Interstate U6TLs with warranty for $105 each. If you can find "blems", perfectly good batteries but with a cosmetic defect in the case, you can get them for about half...
Anyone have any ideas for an inexpensive comset for a Deuce cab? It doesn't have to be original military, although that would be a good touch if the price were reasonable. I'm just looking for a headset/microphone combination to preserve what is left of my 60 year old hearing, prevent hearing...
I thought I read in a post recently that there are some new (or updated) Deuce manuals on LOGSA. I can't find the original thread, Can someone point me in the right direction - Like maybe the TM numbers for the new/updated manuals?
$3500 sounds like a decent price for a running winch truck. Dropsides don't particularly excite me, but overall sounds like a fair deal. Plan on spending at least another $1000 by the time you get the cab top, troop seats, cargo cover, bows and corners, plus the myriad of other mechanical...
Builder77 - You'd better recheck that thread size. Both the kit which came on my truck and the NOS kit I have are 7/8" thread x 13 oz cylinders, exactly the same thread as a disposable propane cylinder. Plus, the 1" thread cylinders are about twice the price of the 7/8" thread cylinders!
As...
Actually, my truck came with the ether kit and a clamp for a spare cylinder mounted on the rad support above the left headlight. The NOS ether start kit also comes with an extra clamp for the spare cylinder. Of course, a 13 oz cylinder is good for about 200 shots, and is only used below 20F, so...
My Deuce has developed a master cylinder leak. Saturn Surplus has new M/Cs for $100, but no rebuild kits. Does anyone have a line on a Deuce M/C rebuild kit or a reasonably priced Master Cylinder? I can't find anything listed in the Steel Soldiers X-reference list.
The box is a little shopworn but was still factory sealed when I opened it. All the parts are brand new in perfect condition, and exactly match the parts installed on my 1970 Deuce. There is no NSN on the box, just Hercules and Quickstart part numbers.
Check out the technical articles section. Lot of good stuff there also, the Multifuel filter and gasket interchange list is at

I actually have a brand new in the box GI NOS ether start conversion kit made by Hercules. Same kit as shown in my photos, with the ether start instruction plate that replaces the flame heater plate. As soon as I get a few good pics I'll list it on Ebay.
Well, let me add my tale of woe, which might support wpzimmer's story about DOT3 swelling brake seals and DOT 5 on top of DOT 3 causing them to leak.
When I picked up my Deuce last February, I of course checked the level of the fluid in the master cylinder. It was a tad low and a very clear...
Joel - Interesting point on the two holes in the bumper. Mine has them also. Are they on all deuce front bumpers, or just winch trucks? According to the first four digits of my serial number (0539), my truck is SUPPOSED to be a winch truck, but it is not; my data plate has the 0539 stamped in...
No, I haven't tried it yet. Got too much money tied up in my in my top and bows to try it. I'll wait for someone else with a temporary memory lapse to try it and describe the experience here!
emmando22 - Please ask Steve Turchet (MV Magzine, Dec 2006) where I can get a printed -209 or -361 set of manuals for $20 each and I'll snap them up in a second. The best I've seen is $75 - $125 PER manual. Yeh, I've got the CDs and PDF downloads, but I'd still love a set of original printed...
Yes, you cant still go through the drive through at McDs if you do not care about wiping out the sign that says "WARNING: CLEARANCE 7'" and the canopies over the cashier's and food windows.
