Got my deuce! and got it stuck within 30 minutes of picking it up LOL

Sadly I don't have a winch on my deuce, but I do on the H1 and I'm a big fan of synthetic, no more nasty wire slivers! The main thing to be aware of (aside from the cost!) is that synthetic isn't very abrasion resistant, not a huge problem if you're pulling yourself out since it is the truck...

Bug out vehicle Deuce, H1, Suburban,

Since this thread got revived I thought I'd add my bit since I have a 1995 H1 and a singled A2. Bear in mind the deuce has the strictly highway tires, just wavy ribs, not knobby, but also not NDTs and the H1 has BFG all terrains. Last winter I went to move the deuce from where I park in the...

    help on my dump Deuce

Here's the thread on my dumper project: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce/51341-deuce-dump-project.html It's got all the info on my project, plus quite a few helpful posts from others. Note the only thing I'd do differently would be to move the hoist forward from where I put it to sacrifice...

    Problems with the Deuce

I don't know if this trick I used to use on carbureted gas engines to find vacuum leaks will work, but I sprayed small amounts of starter fluid around suspect areas and listened for the idle sound to change. Seems like if you spritz the potential areas that air could get sucked in you might get...

    Deuce dump project

I verified the pressure at 2,500 psi with the 5" cylinder 16" stroke. The scissor is right at 72" stroke (4.5:1 ratio), the hinges are mounted at about 18" from the rear of the bed. If my math is right that equates to about 49,000psi of force from the ram, then divide by the mechanical...

    Deuce dump project

I got the sides re-done with some 3/4" brown trex fascia which turned out looking pretty reasonable, not quite as nice as the original green, but good enough! I tried for a full 6 tons, which they loaded more to the front, and I found the limit of the dump hoist. I had to shovel a fair bit...

    Deuce at work, with friend

That'd be fun for all concerned! The show just finished, very impressive as always. A few of their passes took them right over the top of our building, one time quite close at high speed so that I could feel the vibration down to the soles of my feet! The trees were too tall on the edge of...

    Deuce at work, with friend

Drove the deuce to work today, in honor of the Air Force Academy graduation. My brother drove his 1992 H1 Hummer. They make for a fine pair in the parking lot. The troop seats should make a nice spot to sit and watch the Thunderbirds do their air show. Work is right across the highway from...

    Making Oil Change Easier

How many strokes does it take per gallon? The Northern Tool spec says it is only 1-2.3oz per stroke, even if it is dual action that seems like a lot of strokes per gallon at 128oz per gallon, still easier than holding the 5 gallon pail and pouring it in tho!

    Deuce dump project

That is a definite thought. I'd hate to get the troop seats all nicely painted and then beat the snot out of them with a bunch of gravel. Thanks, Jeff

    Deuce dump project

I put the new dump on the old girl to work this weekend. Close to 8 hours back & forth to the gravel place, a bit under 1 hour round trip for 17 miles including load & dump times. I've got the troop seats off for re-finishing, so the maximum volume it would handle equated to about 5 tons, the...

    Deuce dump project

The new cylinder arrived yesterday and I got it installed last night. They provided the return shipping label, so all I had to do was drain the old one and put it in the box and set it out for the fedex guy to pick up. The replacement wasn't too bad of a job since I have the crane at the front...

    Deuce dump project

It takes just shy of 2 minutes to go all the way up, and a bit over a minute to come down. I'm guessing that speed will slow with a full load. Hopefully I'll be testing that this weekend! Still a lot faster than by shovel!! I configured it such that my angle is right at 46 degrees (magic...

    Deuce dump project

I called the place in Texas and they were quite nice about it and said they would ship a new cylinder out right away with a return shipping label. I'll give the new one a shot, but if it has issues then I'll look into getting the parts and re-building it myself. Thanks, Jeff

    Deuce dump project

I got my adapter to connect the high pressure gauge, and of course given a 50/50 chance I had it wrong. Good thing I checked! Turns out port B is the high pressure port. I made good progress this weekend, and probably would have finished if the 'effing cylinder didn't leak! I'm going to call...

    So I bought a deuce

Looks good! On the brakes, you might get by with a flush & bleed (the manual calls for DOT 5) . That'd be worth a shot to start at any rate, depending on the symptoms. You access the filler via the hole in the floor pan between the driver's legs. Remove the vent line, then take off the cap...

    Deuce dump project

The challenge is in determining which port, helpfully labeled A & B, is the high pressure one! I'm going to guess A as high pressure & B as low, but I won't know until I test it. I have a high pressure gauge but I need to get the adapters to be able to connect it.

    Deuce dump project

Pretty much everything you need comes with for the $1200, hoist, pump, hoses, hinges, safety prop leg, cables for the battery (too short for my setup), even the bungee to strap the battery down. I did add some extra steel, most of which I had laying around the barn, I had to buy the 3/8"x5...

    Deuce dump project

The bed will be the original height, but sticks 14" farther back due to the crane you can just see in one of the pics. This particular hoist is a 'low profile' and needs only 8" from the top of the frame rails to the underside of the bed. The 6" of the bed rails got me close plus the wood...

    Deuce dump project

After seeing all the deuce dumpers on here I said to myself "I gotta have one of them!" That and I'll pay for 1/2 the hoist on the delivery savings when I gravel the drive as soon as I finish it! I found the hoist for a heck of a deal from these guys (no affiliation) Premium Supply - Home Page...
