Nup thats 14ga steel not copper... its just the primer that was put in place before tack welding to the original shroud walls so the inside wouldn't be bare.
The little sneaking out on the road (still waiting on my tag) that I've done says yes... The pic is misleading as the fan plate is about...
Its cool that you made it by there... That place is a treasure trove of "stuff"!!! By the by if anyone is intrested they have a website now... http://www.skycraftsurplus.com/
Great to see another fall into the hands of the SS family! Most of the seals you will be looking for are in our parts X section so when the time comes you will be prepaired...
Directly under the oil cooler you have 2 plugs... One is your bypass valve for the cooler assembly... the one behind it (closest to the block) is a square head plug with 3/4 NPT... That would prolly be the easiest location for installing the temp sensor and would give you oil temp going to the...
RE: Oil Pan Location For Installing A Mechanical Oil Temp Se
THere are several ports on the engine, two or three up around the filter area which are NPT that a temp sending unit could be mounted in... Be a lot eaiser than trying to weld a bung into a attached oil pan on a truck.
Just another bump for the meet... I will be going up this weekend to mow out some trails and knock some brush out of the way. If the brain kicks in gear I should be able to bring back some photos and the likes while doing a little off road testing on my beast!
Map information to the location...
Lots of work but easy to do... However none of the fittings for the air brakes are flared, only the hydraulic lines have flares. Air brake lines are all compression ring fittings and the parts they attach to are all NPT (pipe).
Napa carries all of the needed fittings for both styles as do...

Ditto on the congrats! Nothing like getting a new toy home and taking her for a spin! Also nice to hear about your co pilot! Nothing like being able to share an experiance!
Something you may want to consider in swapping oils is doing testing. Pull a sample of your current oils and do a base line tests to get an idea of the metals and so on... Change your fluids and then do another test at say 300-500 miles and then again at 1000 (which will take a while I know)...
Speaking of... What in Sams snot were you doing outside playing with your truck in 30 degree weather???? I will not go outside for free money below 50!!!! If ya can run it around 70 degrees I can get something more comparable and I don't have to worry about FL frost bite! lol
Bjorn,
Can you explane the methodology you used for the testing? I would like to run the same on mine, if we do them identically it would give a base line for comparison on at least 2 trucks and maybe someone else could join in? Patrick??? The more numbers to compare the better.
Thanks for the compliments guys... Come to the meet Im hosting next month and crawl all over it... Id be happy to have some others look it over and get your thoughts and ideas on the project...
Liquid works... Mercury excels above anything else but its toxic so you really need to make up a rim mounted ring to put it in. You CAN just pour it in a tire or tube but yer not "supposed" to... Dyna beads are costly but are made to fit into a valve stem so you can get them in through a tube...
