    5 ton wrecker bed

Double tapered socket, double tapered plug, spread cable end over plug , assemble inside the socket - nut tightens the whole lot wedging it all together - like a compression fitting of sorts. Make sure that you see the cable end through the little hole before tightening. Like Jeff said - these...

    M543A2 finds new home

Yes you did - I was still going off half cocked from the previous one!! Hadn't realised that you talking about the same thing, still thought there was a B2 we needed to discover with the things like on the pallet. Oh no - I was the one that thought you had found a new holy grail!! I am that...

    M543A2 finds new home

OK - Who else got suckered into thinking there was a "new" list for wrecker kit that included weird stuff! B2 indeed. doh! (Not Roman numeral 2 - it's 'Bee', 'Eye', 'Eye': Basic Issue Items)!!!! But seriously - went through the BII for the M62 - also covers the M543 according to page 5 and...

    M543A2 finds new home

Always nice to find the little toys .......... that go with the big toy!! What TM are you referring to - is it the specific one for the 543, as I don't recall seeing anything like that for the 816? I'm sure there would be real interest by the other wrecker owners to learn about more kit...

    ENG-T3 Lubrication Trailer

All I have is the trailer - the lube unit was kept by the friend that got the unit from auction. Chassis plate on the trailer was glued on - not too well. I don't think these ever had an "M" designation. I'll look around for a plate with an actual unique chassis (vin) number - but didn't...

Cab repairs - adding NATO socket

Adding a NATO slave socket to the cab of my M816, mounted below the standard two pin socket. Pic 2 - using body hammer and dolly to flatten the cabs corner radius to allow new socket to sit flush in a square slightly recessed from surface. ('O' ring or gasket and hardware were not included...

Found some yellow - any ideas?

Realising this- I should have qualified:- Direct out of Fort Indian Town Gap PA. Last used in a training unit - civi steers for the nubes. Haven't seen any other spots of non camo. Lots of layers of plain green, 3 colour camo and factory green.... - Er thanks! It's kind of looking that...

Found some yellow - any ideas?

Doing some disassembly on the M816 to enable cab repairs and found this... Yellow original paint under the drivers step Jerry can holder and under the tool box that is behind the holder. Anyone seen this or know what it relates to?

    Wrecker wishlist of mods

Red - have you ever seen roof trusses mounted up the other way at an angle for a single pitch lean-too roof, using the normal base chord as the roof? Just flip the setup and make up a couple of sets of cable tethers as necessary, of suitable cable size. [Theory; cables for tension, tubes for...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

What did you do to stop the truck rolling forwards/backwards or sideways off of the outriggers since they are not rigid? Did you just cross your fingers and hope the fixed baseplate would be good enough?

    Wrecker wishlist of mods

... and by removing the bumperettes to utiliseing the tie down shackles and the 90 deg 'Y' to 'Y' couplers - you can loose the spade sockets and the need for 'end 4'. Bracing for side pull would be lost - but how likely is that? The 984 doesn't have that capability...

    Wrecker wishlist of mods

CSM's Weight Loss Program OK Jeff - using the large boom support legs - with their ends removed (Tab for stay bar left on), fab sets of 'feet' to switch for each of the functions. Saving weight from:- Spade Legs. Towbar. Add holes to boom support tubes for ground anchor pins.

    Rear Level Wind Servicing Tips

First run of level wind post service. NB. This is the second time I have used this winch since I acquired the truck - the first time I found out that it came with a sheared shear pin! Was retrieving a runaway tractor and ended up using the boom! So, after changing out the shear pin, I decided...

    Wrecker wishlist of mods

You should already be able to do this with the drag winch to roll and the boom to lower when over center... About 5 - 9 postings below these was the second discussion in this thread re changing or adding an additional boom winch and way back it's been discussed about one man operation re an aux...

    Wrecker wishlist of mods

Unfortunately you'll need both of these for a suspended tow if you do it the TM way - not so if you have an alternative Holmes lift bar... Now, a permanent 'goal post' to support the boom for travel - like a regular truck crane would reduce that set - assuming you didn't need it variable...

    Wrecker wishlist of mods

I think I understand your question... As the lunette eye is pulled, the flukes of the anchor - the two base plates, would go down as they move towards the stuck wrecker. There may have to be a little trench dug to 'introduce' the flukes into the ground, but when at the correct angle - they'd...
