I've heard of people using locking garage door handles before, the ones with the key. Vendors such as TMG also offer locking handles. Honestly, though, it's not very likely you'll have a 5 ton stolen, although there have been cases in which it happened. Too cantankerous to even get started...
So are you doing dual steers on a 5 ton frame? Just a bobbed and dual-steer-axle M923A1? Many will hate me but I myself have to admit I've had many ideas for a "mega truck" project. I always figured I'd just use the axles from a 923 under a pickup though.

Glad to hear you got her going. Unrelated but where in the state are you located? I'm in Port Alexander and went to UAF up in Fairbanks. Actually had two different M939 series truck owning roommates up there.

If you've got a lead on an M923A2, go for it! If she is bone stock and isn't bobbed, don't bob her- it ruins originality value to collectors.

I know a case where someone put M939 axles under an M816, if that sorta counts. Made it full air brakes although I don't remember the details of the conversion
