    My deuce caught on fire

I think they might need to be recharged every so often too? I remember seeing maintenance tags on some extinguishers having a Service By date on them. I really need to check mine so I don't get stuck with a dead one!

    1958 Machine shop Deuce

Funny that this comes up - at a party this past weekend I was telling one of my guests how I'd love to have a machine shop truck. I know about the 5-ton SEORTM, but I had no idea that a 2 1/2-ton version existed. I thought the M109 shop vans were it, but it looks like that this is it! Very...

    My deuce caught on fire

This could've been a lot worse! I'm glad you're safe and your truck didn't suffer a ton of damage! Many car shows in my area require that a fire extinguisher be kept in the vehicle during the show, so I always carry one in the tool box. It's the last thing to go in so that I can easily access...

    Need some electrical help m108

I was about to say that. All my dad's vehicles have a separate voltage regulator that looks like that. Is yours missing the cover? I guess it doesn't surprise me seeing a '50s era gasser Deuce with a voltage regulator separate from the generator/alternator. I was told it's a lost art tuning...

    What engine can i use?

I'm not sure how realistic that is for a 50+ year old truck designed for both on and off-road operation, and even then not go much faster than 55 MPH. I'd be especially concerned about braking power. I think some members here have done it though, so I guess it's kinda realistic. Then again...

    Allison 1545 Automatic Transmission Specs

That's a nice-looking truck! It looks like it earns its keep! Keep in mind that the AT545/AT1545 are designed to handle a GCVW of about 24000 lbs. Even when the truck is loaded to the data plate weight and towing 6000 lbs also per data plate, the transmission will be overloaded. I got most...

    Allison 1545 Automatic Transmission Specs

You're welcome - I hope your project works out! Seeing that you're new here, I encourage you to introduce yourself in Member's Rides or the "Requirements For New Members" boards and share some pictures of your truck :)

    Allison 1545 Automatic Transmission Specs

I read your question a second time and realized that I found you an adapter plate and not a flywheel. According to the TM a flywheel swap isn't necessary, just the adapter plate:

    Allison 1545 Automatic Transmission Specs

Per PDF page 729 of TM9-2320-386-24-1-2: The part number is 23045001. I found the first reference to this on PDF page 352 of the same book under the Materials/Parts list for TRANSMISSION (IN-VEHICLE) REPLACEMENT for replacing the AT1545P with an AT545. It appears that it was common on...

    What engine can i use?

Regarding the Cat 3116 in the M35A3 - the A3 deuces have a longer and wider engine bay, and I think the hood may sit a little higher. I'm not sure if those changes are necessary for re-powering a pre-A3 deuce to a Cat inline 6. I was thinking about this recently, toying with the idea of...

    New to me ERDLator deuce

    That's a neat idea, a SEORTM Jr!

    New to me ERDLator deuce

HOLY COW I had no idea it could do that! Guess I didn't look at the unit closely enough! There was always junk in it :p

    New to me ERDLator deuce

I'd be interested in seeing the TM for this :) I don't recall the desalinator back as having a slide-out. It has a rear door and a side door though, with a little bay that goes over the cab for a heater. These things were insulated? I wonder how my grandfather took it all out... Lung cancer...

    New to me ERDLator deuce

My grandfather had that deuce back trucked into his back yard. He stripped all the desalinator guts out of it and made it a storage shed. It's always cool seeing these still mounted to a truck! Never heard of ERDLator though - what does that mean?

Looks good!! I hope to get my truck to a few local car shows this year too!

    Waste Oil filter

It's times like this that make me wish I had a multifuel! Diesel is about $5.30-$5.40/gallon here, usually a full dollar more per gallon than gasoline :( Does anyone have pictures of a centrifuge filter setup? I've never seen one - only read about them here.

    M35a2 keeps blowing headlight

I just looked up that listing. It looks like they're shipping surplus sealed beam headlamps. I'd think they'd be good to work with your truck without issue, so I'm thinking it's either an electrical problem or the idle is set too low like @Barrman mentioned. Your voltage should read around 24...

New to me Deuce with matching trailer - wrenching post

It's my understanding that different fuel filters can be used for the same application as long as they provide the filtration needed for proper engine function. When I replaced the fuel filter on my truck, it was different from what was specified in the TM, even though I'm pretty sure it was...

Mystery Air Leak behind cab of M35A3

The air dryer vents out the bottom of the chassis at the air dryer outlet. It makes me wonder how it works for deep water fording, though!
