Fordman - that's a pretty neat mod, nicely engineered, did you consider running duplicates to the other side?
- unfortunately now it's easier for Soldier B to ask for help with the heavy stuff as you can't say "no d@mn it, I'm up here and I'm not getting down again"!
Assuming you are going to...
Is there anyone going through or lives near Chattanooga that can pick up a small'ish crate for me?
Eventual destination UpState NY or S/S underground railroad via shows on East Coast.
Item is wheel lift crossbar for M984E1 (HEMTT wrecker), crate approx 5'x1'x1'... possibly 100-150lbs I'm...
Basic Metalurgy
The tow bar ends (and most feet) are cast, the tubes are extruded (forged), collars are welded (fabricated) to the tubes and the pins are machined. BUT the steel recipe may be different for each component.
I think there is a little confusion with terminology going on here :-...
I have a farm and hay wagons ....... and I would still prefer to stick a NATO hitch (pintle hook) on the front bumper and 'nose' it into place!
That right there will take a lot of patience and a very long fuse.
NB, Doing it with a farm tractor that has quick and tight steering as well as...
I think you have all the info that you need, as in, you will be fine with one snatch block on the front of the 5 ton at 'A', returning to the winch '12000'.
But... to tie up the loose end of your post one question... No - the pulley at 'C' (instead of at the winch "12000") doesn't change the...
I do not know if they are normally left on the vehicle - my M816 came with a bunch of those, mixed in with all the other tow bar feet, for attaching by the H8's at the motor pool or scene of wreck.
However, if they are not part of the wrecker kit and do in fact live with the 880, then that's...
... here in NY, there is also the complication of "if necessary" with the wrecker endorsement - as per the poster in the DMV on categories of CDL, as in; first recovery, at/from the scene of an accident may not need an endrsement but 'secondary' movement from the wreckers yard, to some other...
No idea! NY recently changed the letter from an W to an S (or visa versa) so for a while I guess. It's not a hard one to get, simple book work actually - not sure it cost me any extra - when done with the others you need for a Class A.
NB. It's the same one for a light (1 ton) tow truck...
... even if you sit it really low between the frame rails, allowing you still to show the man that you "pull" an RV type goose neck trailer that does not need the really big - full width trailer king-pin plate. but with a few bolts, you could change out to a full size fifth wheel.
And don't...
What Pat says - especially as suspended towing will expose you to the requirements of needing a wrecker endorsement on your CDL and specific tow truck insurance.
Scott - do you need bulbs or lights? I am not too far from you and brought a whole myriad of 24v bulbs back from the UK last time I went home. They are used on all big trucks there.
to what sort of standard? - Too slow, too dim, wrong color??
aren't there ones there as standard? Military vehicles have to comply too.
Never seen this on civi wreckers unless you can't drive over 20mph then he's talking about a SMV triangle???
There is a standard for that?
So there...
As far as the driveline is concerned - these are cross country vehicles - not designed/intended to be driven on road (very far).
Frequent inspection and measurement of tyre diameters and subsequent rematching/replacement is required - there are no differentials in the transmission - all wheels...
Well hopefully your neighbour will have learnt a lesson so you won't have to acquire spades for the next time!
Will you be putting a little backhoe silhouette on the side of your door a-la WWII fighters and bombers?????
For intended purpose of OP, that is what the truck was designed for - light equipment (which is military speak for 'everything except M88/M1A1 tanks!)
Points to consider:
You will need a military trailer ie., M870, otherwise you'll have to add ~14" to the RGN and change the Kingpin from 2" to...
He also was selling Unimogs and a couple of old Land Rovers a while back, a few 5 tons (800's and 900's) and some Deuces and CUCVs too. Even a Huey shell I think.
He has another place further West where he also has an 816 and he intends to consolidate everything to Grand Gorge but as...
MK 15 rear 'A' frame is a kind of a goofey arrangement ... I am sure you can improve on the chain stays so as not to worry about it interfering while using the crane at the same time or your container by looking at the HEMTT wreckers stinger setup and make the frame/fairlead support a permanent...
