The inner seal on the M939 series is a regular oil seal. When I pulled a hub on my M929 to service the brakes the hub was full of gear oil. There were no external leaks. I saw the inner seal was an oil seal and remembered an old post Ron (73m819) had made about wet hubs in the 5 tons and PM'd...
Somewhere in that section of the statutes there will be a list of definitions, usually at the begining. They probably say more than X pounds empty weight or more than 2 axles will be considered commercial vehicles. Be sure the definitions you look at cover the statute you are referring to...
A small percentage of gas in a tank of diesel does not hurt anything. It stays mixed so you don't have to worry about getting any straight gas in the engine.
A friend has a car repair shop and has had numerous gas cars come in with diesel added to the fuel tank. His girl friend was Vietnamese...
My daily driver is a stick and my wife's daily driver is a stick so I have a fair amount of "stick time" and a lot of miles towing our RV in all kinds of terrain with a stick. With that said, all of my MVs are now automatics and are much nicer for driving around and in stop and go traffic. If...
I had the over voltage problem recently also.
It is not hard to rebuild these GM alternators. Here is a link to my alternator rebuild thread. There are pictures so you can decide if it's something you can do yourself. The second link is the rebuild kits I have in the classifieds...
Scott, just for fun check the size of a picture you are uploading. I just looked at the two pictures you uploaded of the fuel can and they are about 54KB each and 800x600. I also checked all the pictures I have uploaded over the years and the biggest was a little over 90KB and most were under...
Just machine a sample and cut it in half if you can't settle the argument using a model and measuring. A physical sample of the end product will answer all the questions.
With the engine running install a jumper from the battery terminal on the back of the alternator to the #! regulator terminal (one on the left looking at the alternator from the rear). This will turn on the regulator and start the alternator charging if it is working. Do this for each alternator...
It should run 55 easily.
When I got my M929 and first hit the interstate, it ran right up to 60+ mph with no problems. I'm thinking this will be a shorter return trip than I thought. Then I noticed the tach slowly going over 2300 rpm. I realized the tach was dragging so I slowed down to 55~57...
Scott, did you figure out why the solar wasn't charging the house batteries correctly at the GA rally? You have a pretty impressive solar power system. I would think it had to be something simple.
Cadmium plating was mostly phased out in the mid-90's. Lot's of the hardware I spec'd originally as cadmium with yellow treatment was changed to yellow zinc as the cost and availability made the cadmium impracticable.
I'm pretty sure you can still get cadmium plating, I think it will be expensive.
