Dittos on leaking. I've only seen one that had a rusted off impeller. If it's over heating and there's not a puddle on the ground, it's something else.
I was pretty happy my stock Deuce got 10 MPG. I had a 440 Duster that only got 10 MPG running 100LL (but was fast), and a '79 Dodge Power wagon that got 11 MPG. If you are starting in the single digits for fuel mileage, you are not going to see a huge improvement. Just suck it up and quit...
After looking at the air system diagram, I think I have it figured out. I have to look at the truck to be sure, because it's a little different from the air system diagram in the -20 TM. I'll post up when I'm finished.
Reading through the M915A1 -10 TM, I see the tractor parking brakes have to be released before the trailer air supply valve can supply air to the trailer. I did verify that mine works this way. I imagine either the military had this requirement, or that's the way trailer air systems worked in...

On this particular day there was a company party going on at one of the big wheels plantation. They were running late getting back and were worried about missing the party. Turns out the plantation was on the coast so...
There are dust covers on the back that can be removed with out pulling the hub and wheels. You can see both brake shoes if all they need to do is measure them.
I have not had it not get to operating temperature since I replaced the thermostat. And I have driven it in 40 F temps (I know, HA, HA) last winter. The bypass flow is not that much, it will take longer in cold WX and If you are in real cold WX you need a cold WX front, but we don't see that in...
