The problem with making your own is it then becomes DOT and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) issue. Will it work, sure. Is it legal on the highway? That's up to DOT/FMCSA (they mandate what can be used).
It's like me running sand paddles on my dune car going down the...
Yeah, as I said the EU stuff is priced like it was gold and carbon fiber.
Meanwhile in the US....

Spot on. Four years ago I was partying out there a lot. They loved to wave me down and ask to use the LMTV as a DJ booth (one reason I wanted the M1082 trailer, so I could just leave it if I needed to go to town or make a beer run).
But the entire scene changed somehow right after that point.
Actually, I avoid Port-A during Spring Break like the plague.
I used to go and party on the beach all night back in the day. But as the years went by, the crowd shifted more and more to little high school age bangers from San Antonio. Most are minors and have no fear of law enforcement or...
I've always cranked down the bolts on the OEM mirrors. Mine don't budge unless they encounter a solid object. I can still tuck them in on the rare occasion that I need additional clearance, but it takes a lot of pulling to do so. Torque those suckers down (replace the bolt, sping, washer if...
Yep, the days of just hosing it out after the beach will be over once I install the flooring/underlayment/heating.
Good point on mold. I specifically designed my build with as much open space and airflow (accordion curtains vs doors, etc). Mold is a big issue down here in the South.
How is the vibration with those?
I've only ridden passenger in an LMTV that had them and the vibration caused such a blur I couldn't distinguish objects.
I know some who have installed them say it's not an issue. And some say it doesn't bother them. But most acknowledge they vibrate more...
Depends on the registration type. An company car or RV/mobile office, no (I know this to be fact, at least in the states I've dealt it). A large truck, quite possibly would fall under DOT.
Agreed. NOS has a cure date and an expiration date right on the package with the NSN. Ask about the date and packaging. The most current NOS I've seen expire 2023. They come individually packaged and if the seller claims they have no packaging, assume they were unpackaged to hide the dates...
It's why I wanted to go with vinyl. It's not like I'll be hosing it out like the good old days, but yeah...leaks, etc. I have hardwood floors in the house and have had water damage from a frozen pipe before. Makes the wood do interesting things.
The vinyl certainly won't hold up as well...
Looking at other builds that have custom bushing assemblies, I came across these.
Not exact fit by any means, but there are a couple on here that with some minor mods could work in a pinch (especially as the thinner bushing)...
