Easy yourself young guy. Think before you hit the enter key. Reading the TMs for a specific issue and using the troubleshooting section is one of the best ways to learn your truck. This applies to almost all MVs that have a TM available.

Be careful as the end of the wire is live with 24v. A big fireworks show can happen if it ever touches anything. You should disconnect the wire from the other side of the resistor pack (black shroud)

The starter will fit fine. You will need the correct support bracket and I would recommend new starter bolts. All of this is listed in the starter threads in the CUCV Helpful Threads sticky

Use a multimeter to check the voltage at both batteries with the engine not running and with it running. That will tell you if the alternator is self exciting.

6.2L items are indeed getting harder to find. Remember they are 30+ years old (the newest 20+) and not as many of them where made as there where 350s.
