You need to troubleshoot your glow plug system. There is a step-by-step procedure in the TM 9-2320-289-20 tech manual, chapter 2, table 2-4 Electrical Troubleshooting, paragraph 15, page 2-62.

Easy yourself young guy. Think before you hit the enter key. Reading the TMs for a specific issue and using the troubleshooting section is one of the best ways to learn your truck. This applies to almost all MVs that have a TM available.

There is a parts manual that lists all the items used on your truck with diagrams and GM part numbers...
Be careful as the end of the wire is live with 24v. A big fireworks show can happen if it ever touches anything.
You should disconnect the wire from the other side of the resistor pack (black shroud)
Do not use the word HELP in your titles unless your life is in danger of you are stuck on the side of the road.

The starter will fit fine. You will need the correct support bracket and I would recommend new starter bolts.

Use a multimeter to check the voltage at both batteries with the engine not running and with it running. That will tell you if the alternator is self exciting.
Where did you get the truck? Straight from the military? It is possible that it was all loose when you got it and finally came apart. I have gotten many trucks where something had been taken apart and just loosely put back together. One on the worst was a Deuce air pump. Everything looked...

Can you tell if the wiring has been modified already? post some pictures of the major wiring areas and I should be able to tell what you have to work with.
