I'm in the process of doing the brakes on my deuce. All the wheel cylinders were bad (not rebuildable). I also had a bad wheel bearing. OD Iron has all the parts and is in Florida so shipping takes one day. The parts are cheap and you will have piece of mind knowing everything is new.
I'm...
I used the whole house water filer housing that you buy at Home Depot. Use the string filters. I don't remember the micro rating but I never had any problems. Only thing to watch out for is the WVO will swell the o-ring on the filter housing so you may have to change it when you change the...
HAAAAA!!!!! wb1895, I drove my deuce 420 miles home in about 11 hours in one day and my A was in a coma for three days:shock:!!!! And that was with the spring seat. I can't imagine driving it every day more than a few miles or an hour seat time let's say. Maybe if I was 30 years...
Alright!!!! The title was in the mail today. Only about 17 days since I sent the paper work back to GL.
Now all I have to do is get the tag, finish the brakes, and start cruising!
I have run about 400 gallons of Jet-A and about 300 gallons of WVO through my 1999 F350 in the last few years. No problems yet....
I did notice that Jet-A will absorb water so you have to watch that. If it's milky looking, it has water in it. I'm not sure how much would be too much.
Ferro, I talked to my wife and she wants to go to Alaska again! She has been twice before, but this will be the first time for me. We won't be taking the Deuce. If we can convoy with our F350 and TT, we'll be there. Sounds like a fun trip.
Do you have a date of departure and a route decided on...
The title being already in my name will be a plus. I'm getting tried of having to wade through paper work. It will be good for the ordeal to come to the end...
I applied for the SF-97 the day after I got my truck and just received a couple of forms in the mail from GL. I have to add some information and sign them. One was application for title without registration; the other was a motor vehicle title reassignment supplement. I'm supposed to mail it...
I thought it might be better to have it all apart so I could pull the cover off the brake drum to adjust the brake shoes. Plus I want to clean everything up real well. There are all kinds of dried garbage on the outside of the hubs/brake drums.
I ended up pulling the hubs. It's not that big a deal.
My wheels cylinders are not rebuildable so I odered new ones for OD Iron. I honed one for about 30 minutes and didn't get it smooth. Maybe the dingleball hone from NAPA will do it, but it costs the equivalent of two new wheel cylinders so...
I'm getting ready to rebuild the wheel cylinders and I was wondering if you can do that just pulling the brake drums. In the TM it looks like they always remove the hub. I can't tell from the pictures if there is enough room to get the brake shoes off.
The seals don't leak and the axles ran...
Thanks for all the replies.
I have State Farm Green_gator and the cost per year is about $450. It is a supposed to be a commercial policy for personal use. I haven't gotten the policy yet, that is what my agent told me. I'll post the details when I get them. I didn't go with collector...
Thanks for all the replies.
Because it's a MV, it is eligible for the Horseless Carriage tag. I'm attaching a picture from DMV Procedure RS-25 which covers it.
I have read through all the statutes and know the use limits. I think the term "public display" could be interpreted as any time I’m...
I'm getting ready to get my tag (as soon as the title shows up) and I need to decide which tag; Horseless Carriage or Antique. My wife thinks I should go with the HC because you don't see many of those.
It looks like the usage is the same for each and other than having to send the paper work...
Have somebody follow you and watch for the body leaning while you make slight turns (lane changes). I have had tall radials do that on small 4X4s. Watch for the rear axles shifting too.
As for the quicker turn in one direction. Is the truck heavier on one side? If it turns quicker to the...
Ha, Ha, I bet your ride was more comfortable jwaller. I didn't realize you are a pilot. You can see what I spend most of my time flying in my avatar. I appreciate you going out of your way to help.
The fellow at GL Ft. Jackson was very nice and helpful.
Recovery Successful! Part 2...
I ran down the road to the first rest area (about 25 miles) and then stopped to look everything over. Everything was ok; the axles were barely warm as were the transmission and transfer case. I checked the oil and fuel to make sure they weren’t getting together...
