Water Pump Safety Sean11, we did a hazard assessment and the truck was high enough to require railings. We need lanyards with safety lines and Job Procedures for the use of ladders. Crawling under the hood in a tight space not normally occupied by a person meant a confined space entry permit...

G749 Water Pump Called NAPA today to see if they could find a water pump and current part number, they are still looking. The LEVY part number 7411731 or the part number on the box did not 'cross' with anything, yet. Butch, it's not urgent because I'm set up but if you can find a part number...

    Towing Safety (Please Read)

Towing Safety Not sure why a truck is dragging a tank down the highway but once he comes around the bend, I'm sure they start thinking the same thing. Zooming in it looks like the tank starts to pull the back end of the truck around then a little over-steer to correct and..........well, I just...

G749 Water Pump Replacement With the TM's and the Bob Kettler Tech Tips in hand we are taking the first steps to replace the water pump. It's not leaking but is rattling enough to anticipate a detonation at any time so the truck is shut down 4months before winter. 2 pumps showed up today from...

    MVPA 2012 ALCAN Convoy sighting

MVPA ALCAN 2012 sighting Great thread start and a place that we can ask Catman and others in the collector convoys to let us know how they're 'makin out'. One collector convoy had planned to cross the Canadian border and land in Brooks, Alberta on the 26th. A long drive up highway 36 to...

Floodin trees We don't let 5 inches of rain stop us. We pumped for two days, then it rained. We pumped again and finally found a dry day to work. Working in 6" of Alberta snot mud makes your legs strong and the equipment loves this stuff. Can't keep them out of it!

    My GMC, a little update

Not missing Canada Happy Birthday Tom, For your birthday, here's what you were missing, so you're not missing it anymore. I will pour a drink. The winds blew smoke at us for a while so I got a shot of a pink sun setting on the 1010.

Valve Cover Prep After a quick prep on the valve cover with a wire wheel, being careful not to 'over-preserve', we wiped everything down with some 'reducer' after a varsol bath. The reducer removed all the oil and finger prints and it was ready for paint. Using high heat Ford Grey we splashed...

GMC Valve adjustment It was time to set valves so SuperDave came over and wrenched on the 135 for an hour. He set valves, replaced points, gapped plugs, played with carb, timing, fixed backwards coil, found bad water pump bearings, reminded me of the manifold crack.......all in an hour. Then...

    Towing Safety (Please Read)

Load maximum Exactly why I put it up there sir and thank you, all input for safety is valuable. If someone sees the gear required to pull a 3.7tonne ferret and farms it out to a commercial carrier because they didn't want to damage their utility trailer, then everyone wins. Even with the...

    MVPA 2012 Alaska Highway Convoy

Prepared for Alaska Catman, I understand we may be running a combined Alberta / American convoy from Edmonton to Whitecourt on the 28th. However it works we look forward to seeing you all again. We've had some of the best conditions up north for mosquito's this year so if you're heading to...

SucceSSful trailering That's it! If you take a guess at the half way point of the ferret, for argument let's say right side of the spare tire, you've got the center of load slightly behind the front axle. You might have a little more then 40% of the load ahead of the front axle and might be...

Estimating vehicle weight distribution I have edited the above post with more accurate numbers and apologize for misleading information. Thus the caveat of sleep deprived post SPD, which will not happen again. Squirt-truck, thank-you for the correction and sorry for the need for a...
