Finally, I was back in the Netherlands with some time to start do vital repairs.
Sitting in my "headquarters" behind the truck trying to figure out how to do things.
New brake lines and hoses. It occasionally can be hot in the Netherlands, and rain 5 minutes later, so some tarp...
For even better access, remove the tires as well.
Tires and lots of beams to make sure the truck is safe and stable enough to work under and to test the engine.
My first goal was to make the truck street legal AND to make it a dual function: dump truck and tractor in one.
The first thing I did after buying the truck was going to the Dutch Department of Transport to get a preliminary inspection of the truck and ask if it would be possible to get papers...
Same here. Officially, I am allowed to transport 12 soldiers in the M51A2. I discussed this also with the Dutch DoT and the Czech police ... no dice ... no way.
Even for transporting tourists as part of a museum tour for a few miles from the museum to the Cold War border crossing between...
Wait till the last few days:
- you will not get voter's regret
- we have to do some hard canvassing to get you on our side, which will make PB happy as well.
Win-Win, but don't forget to put an alarm to remind you to vote in time.
More canvassing tonight (our time), have to go play...
Depends. In the Netherlands are a few scrapyards with enough stuff to repair an army, not kidding. However, that's a 650 mile drive and unfortunately, I am not that often in the Netherlands anymore. So once I know what I need, I try to combine it with a visit to my family. Unfortunately, they...
When I first saw this truck in 2007, I never thought I could get my hands on it. In 2010, my Czech family was with me in the Netherlands for the funeral of my brother, and my stepson saw the wheeled excavator and later asked me to see if it was for sale. The owner has a camping place- golf -...
Don't believe that you can transport it to whatever country and "it will be done quite easy there". Once you are there in front of their office, you'll find out that nothing is possible and everything is expensive. The best way is getting Dutch papers through the RDW. Once you have those, it...
I wanted to put my truck up much later, once I am completely satisfied with the result. However, that might take centuries, and only 6 contestants is not much fun.
So I will throw in my 1965-73 M51/2 A2 w/w
This is the only pic I have close on my old laptop, hope I can change it later when...
I got stuck this winter because my brake system was open to the air and therefore my sprag did not engage, so basically I had a 6x4! Does that changes the story, making it easier if the engine is running?
Anyway, engine might not be running after all; radiator is not OK and having an air system...
The US stuff or real Budweiser Budvar?
Actual, it is not that popular in the Czech Republic itself by real beer lovers, I am told. Then again, I am not a real beer drinker myself, so what do I know? What I do like are the occasional Belgian "brown beers" like Rochefort, Leffe, Westmalle.
Some people would say that the best beer is in the Czech Republic, which has the origins of the pilsner beers and off course Budvar.
Maybe we should make a tasting here and there?
Soldier, you can have many more years in front of you, but you have to set your priorities, and counter these problems from three sides. Unless there is already a serious organ problem involved, these things can be gotten under control. Most of it your doc will have told you as well.
1)...
Tow bar is single, towing truck probably a Tatra truck, not sure which one yet, I will be sitting in the M51 with running engine and without brakes sweating or getting a heart attack from stress.
mostly they work with single tow bars in Europe. Towing with chain without good brakes does not sound like good idea. Maybe pushing the truck would be an alternative, easier to keep the combo straight?
I am trying to get our M51 to our blacksmith workshop to make an exhibition on 30 year cold war. Engine is running but brakes are not ok and I do not have veteran plates yet. And to scared to drive the truck solo without knowing 100% the brakes will not fail.
If I have the engine running, can...
Big Boy Engine rolls again
This caught my eye this morning while checking how the world is going to heck in a basket:
After nearly 60 years off the tracks, the world's largest steam locomotive roars
Back on the rails for the first time in six decades, the only operational Big Boy steam engine...
Often new tires exceed the purchase of "scrap yard saves", especially if you really buy new or 80% tires because you need 10 of them.
I only bought reasonable tires for the front, the rear has four on each side, so they still have the old original worn down US army tires.
