Well I finally got around to checking that leaking seal after that wheel started making some noise the other day. I looks like a newbie in the motor pool worked on it before it hit GL. I found that the brake shoe retainer bolts had worked loose and were allowing the leading shoe to pull away...

I bought my Deuce from GL and the description stated that the batteries were "too weak" to turn over the engine. I planned on jump starting it when I got there. While waiting for the GL guy with the slave cables to show up, I hopped in the cab and flipped on the power switch and got the low...

I would agree with setting the clearance a little looser, cause what would you consider a "cold engine" 60 Deg. or 100 Deg. I also try to avoid that RPM range. That makes me feel better that the rattle is "normal".

I need to do the valve lash adjustment too. This is my first Deuce so I'm not sure what should sound "normal" but my engine seems to have a lot of valve noise at around 2100-2200 rpm. But other than that everything seems to run well. Unless that noise is "normal".

apparently there are at least 2 types of fastening systems out there. The top that I have for my deuce is the heavy vinyl type and it has vinyl loops sewn on the top sides of it and uses a plastic adjustable hook that is attached to the strap. the vinyl top for my m105a2 has the metal clamp...

Those could be used to secure the canvas sides on a Deuce. 5 per side. Looks like your missing the clamps though unless the clamps are secured to you canvas. They would attach to the metal corners of the bows.
