How High of a Garage door?

As sure as heck would like to see what you put in your model train barn it being even higher as your truck barn. Everybody now always has these electric doors? Nobody using those folded doors like in the pic anymore? They are high enough and cheap (at least here) and no problems with the open...

CONVOY AMBUSH CASE STUDIES by Rich Killblane

My father and his brother were at the wrong time in the wrong place in WW II; on Java (at that time still Dutch) when the Japanese landed. They were mobilized as common soldiers and almost immediately made POW. Spent all the war in the infamous camps along the Burma railroad and finally ended in...

    Zout's Cookout

Looks you people are going to have a ball with us Europeans (or at least me) biting our nails on the wrong side of the puddle :tinkerbell:  aua. Maybe next year or 2016 time and funds will be a bit better then, besides we hope to be in the USA those years anyway (cross my fingers).

Steel Soldiers MV of the month - February VOTE HERE!

I agree, but I was thinking only about something small. For example, take your truck posted by Zout. Next to it could be a small text box saying 1942 WC22 Another one saved, watch the timeline Here is the build thread Submitted because I like reading 53 pages of build thread  :wink...

Steel Soldiers MV of the month - February VOTE HERE!

Patracy, I know it means again extra work for you, but would it be possible to make a small text box next to each truck? In the box each contestant should write model and year made, and maybe also a link to the story on that truck. Optional also a few words extra about what is so special about...

    M52a1

What thickness of sheet metal you used for the simple body work? I have to repair some parts as well on my M51A2.

Steel Soldiers MV of the month - February VOTE HERE!

I was out of the thread loop (time difference and some other urgent things came up), Swiss thanks for not waiting for me but putting up the pics of the wrecker yourself. There sure are a lot of great trucks, and the idea of a truck of the month is pretty cool as well. I don't think that...

Steel Soldiers MV of the month Feburary 2014 - Nominate here!

I would like to nominate Swiss' M62 as truck of the month, as symbol of and in appreciation for his work for the GA bill and our hobby. I am waiting for the pic of that truck from Swiss (or somebody else who has it); could not find it on the site. And its time for me to go to bed, its getting...

    We have been cut off.

After the fact, yes. Maybe the man did really do something without thinking because after the snow comes spring rains and run-off (mostly more quiet though). Then again, who takes three weeks of constant rain into his equation when the average for that period is solid snow and ice? Another...

    Project Time Again - re-paint

Just finished a rough and dirty job like that myself, now I am waiting to see how an expert does it.

    We have been cut off.

Whit these continuing rains, mudslides are not so uncommon, nearby Austria has a fair amount of them but we locally not (too flat here). Sometimes its really cutting trees or too long rain periods, or weird combination of factors. Sometimes its just as my uncle in BC would say about falling...

    We have been cut off.

Good you came after the fact, anybody in that tunnel at the time it happened? Amazing how much an on first sight not so big mudslide can do for damage. Surprising though that the heavy stuff went so deep into the tunnel.

Old truck with air-assisted hydraulic brakes coupled to a modern air-brake trailer

No. During my CDL courses in the 1980s all brake systems were extensive explained: simple hydraulic, vacuum-assisted hydraulic, air-assisted hydraulic (on our MVs), air-actuated hydraulics and full-air. Still have that book and when checking for my refresher course just now and for the work on...

Old truck with air-assisted hydraulic brakes coupled to a modern air-brake trailer

I really searched, some answers came close, but never really found a satisfactory THEORY answer I could understand. How does an old air-assisted hydraulic braked truck regulate the brake power of a modern trailer with air brakes? :shock...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I did not had any serious issues with them when I tried to legalize my 1973 M51A2. To be honest (but keep that under your head please) they probably should never have let me through. What helped was that I promised that the truck would leave the Netherlands as soon as I had the papers. Besides...

Member Map with unused login names: cleaning up the membership list?

I tried to find out who is in my nick of the woods, but there are several member locations that seem to use wrong or unused member names. When I copy the user name in the advanced search under user name: I get a sorry no match reply. Using the normal search with that user name, I got a...

    5th wheel wrecker

My M51A2 has a short wheelbase like the M52. I was not really thinking about doing a really wrecker conversion but was fascinated by the possibilities that set-up has. Never saw a fifth-wheel assembly as anything other than for towing trucks, but I now start seeing more options.
