I now legally own a 37 year old rusty 5 ton dump truck with a swamp in the dump body
I have a 1973 5 ton dump truck with an LDS-465-1A Multi fuel engine, my first MV and first truck.
Truck has been irregularly used over the last 10 years, but always on road diesel. Did not drive for over a year, tanks almost empty, maybe with water.
I am definetly going to replace the primary...
OK, made it to the Netherlands friday night, 900 km in 11 hours, with a few hours of legally driving 160 km/hour (100 miles/hour :driver: ). Hopefully the road back will be very very slow and noisy.
The owner was out already, so we will do the paperwork monday. Had another look a the truck...
I'll make that my first priority then, if possible even before driving or towing it to our Dutch working space. Not sure if the current owner agrees with any work done on his terrain though.
So order would be
1) replace alll fuel and fuel filters
2) run engine to see if it works and warm up...
The truck was never deployed although the son of the Dutch owner painted RAMBO on the front-top of the nose (very original aua )
It s a 1973, so the original olive-drab without camo, as it was (see pictures in first thread) and without rust.
Where possible, we will restore the original white...
Normally, when buying another car, I automatically change the oil, oil filters, fuel filters, belts, and depending on the age also all the other oils like gearbox and brakes.
With this 5-ton multi-fuel, I am a bit unclear what the best stategy is.
This specific vehicle has never or not often...
Tomorrow or Saturday I hope to take possession (keep your fingers crossed, hope the guy did not change his mind). Then I really can start working.
Ron, this sounds very interesting and promising, if the bolting to the main frame is not too complicated. That might mean that with four hydraulic...
What is the correct paint for the later M39 - M5x series trucks (and presumably everything else as well).
I have a 1973 Kaiser dump truck, in one color, and like to at least repaint some rusted areas.
From the Olive Drab website, I figured out some numbers for the 1968 - 1984 period.
OD...
Just found something nasty. the dump truck has a DOUBLE FRAME or a subframe on top of the main frame. Did not notice that before.
Any idea how the second one is bolted on top of the first one?
Anybody knows if the hydraulic cylinder is connected to the subframe or to the main frame below it?
Actually, just run through the left navigation bar on this site for some nice pics on what running around in the Czech Republic. The site's name just means "old trucks".
If anybody needs parts of an east-European truck, let me know. It's getting a bloody expensive hobby over here as well, but...
Clinto, thanks for the reply.
I think youe right, maybe I should have asked, does anybody know if these later trucks (that is, M39 M5x early 1970s) were ever fitted with something else than air-assisted hydraulics? All I found says no.
Again, wrong formulated question. What I was trying to...
Warthog and moderators, is there a manifacturers specification sheet or did anybody ever made a list with the standard dimensions of each of the M39 variations, like M51A2, multifuel engine, frame these dimensions, standard tires that size etc etc?
I need some of the basic data like brake...
Thought I bumped this up the line a bit. Really nobody knows about this or am I posting it in the wrong topic line ...?
:lost:
Thing is, If I have to make adjustments, maybe its easier and, if so, definitely cheaper to get the necessary stuff here in the Czech Republic...
I am occasionally in the USA as well, we have some joint projects. So if I had the funds, I might bite for "as is" and join the Alaska run next year (although I prefer northern British Columbia, worked there during the winter). Unfortunately, trying to keep a non-profit running in a...
Noticed that under the resources, this depot manual for the M39 series is not mentioned. Found them by accident and downloaded it.
This link will bring you to the page which has the entire part, you can download it as pdf file through the link in the right upper side.
Maybe one fo the...
OK countdown is running. Next Saturday, if nothing goes wrong  (touch wood, burn a candle, vingers crossed, etc, don't be too optimistic), I will take possesion of my first truck, a M51A2 (with pictures). ONe week later, I have an appointment with the "State Road Service" to get the thing...
I am busy with getting a 1973 Kaiser Jeep Corporation M51A2 multi-fuel, hope to pick it up October 2 or so.
From what I read, I think it comes fitted with the LDS-465-1A Turbo Multifuel (as opposed to the ...1). Seeing the picture, can anybody say if this is correct or not ?
Problem...
Maybe wrong place to post, but I ran out of ideas.
I am trying to find the current counterpart of GL on the European mainland.
The one in the UK is easy to find; I think its actually part of the same company as GL.
There should be one in Germany as well. Actually the main location of the DoD...
