They're worthless. I'll come get them... ๐๐๐
Actually, I've seen them go from "come pick it up" to $1000.00+ depending on what shape they're in etc.
The one I had for my deuce was a "come get it" situation...
I really don't think there is a "wrong" when it comes to our vehicles. I live by the saying "If I ain't paying for fuel, insurance or the note, it's none of my business."
Welcome to the outfit! Glad your truck made it home!
Indeed... my first was a 1978 M880 that I bought off the lemon lot in Kaneohe Bay, HI for $700.00. I didn't know what I had, I just knew it was an old Army truck and I could afford it. (I sold "stock" in it to my buddies. The "stock" was...
Something to consider when applying anti-seize:
I work subsea offshore in an environment VERY conducive to corrosion. We use aluminum and stainless together.
One of the things we do to combat corrosion is anodes near the hardware; which isn't practical and would do nothing above water.
As far...
OK all-
Mis-diagnosis time on my part...
After sleeping on it, I realized the brakes AREN'T grabbing. What I experienced was the torque bar being off of the back axle. As I accelerated, the rear axle was driving forward into the forward axle, causing the tires to rub, which caused the smoke...
I can't answer that for sure until I get home and test all of the others. Odds are this is an age related issue, it could be the larger tires. Without doing a study based on completely new bushings etc, I can't quantify and answer.
Doing a last minute inspection of Bertha before I head offshore and found this today:
I found the appropriate section of the TM (many thanks to @m715mike for the direction to head):
The question I have for the 5 ton gurus:
Do I need to take off the tires? How difficult is it to press...
In my defense, I couldn't very well check it while rolling g down the highway! ๐ ๐๐๐๐
Seriously, though, it was the advice on this thread that got me to that point. Thank you all so much!
OK bud, I've researched the methods behind changing diaphragms and a couple questions:
1. Should I do the parking brakes as well?
2. I take it this is the diaphragm I'll need?
Those Mikitary Guys Service brake Diaphragm
I just filmed the "hold" test and am uploading it to YouTube. I'll post it in a second.
What I did was pressure up the system, chock the wheels and have my boy press and hold the brakes. It's leaking a LOT of air back there. It seems to be on both sides. I'll post it after it uploads.
As much as I was hoping this was the issue, it is not to be. Took it for a short spin and they continued to lock up. ๐ก
Now I have to figure out the commonality between the two rear right axles before I start throwing parts at it.
It seems like it's not so much grabbing as dragging.
Hmm. Off...
