Newbie, need info on this truck, questions

I've used them as silage trucks with a dump bed added and about 11k in the bed. Both the nh250 and the 8.3. Loaded like this they're very slow to accelerate up to speed. With the 14.00R20 super singles , cruising speed is going to be 55-65mph loaded. The axles and driveline components are...

Newbie, need info on this truck, questions

Possibly it has been transplanted, but - 1) 1986 was M923A1 with the NH250 2) visibly the truck is an M923A1 as evidenced by the fuel tank, the front shackles, the lack of CTIS, the presence of super singles, and the front axle

Check to see if it has an 8.3. Looks to me like it'll have the NH250. For heavy and slow off road, I'd actually prefer the NHC250.

    MEP003A battery cables

When you figure out which cables are missing let me know and I'll give you a quote for fabricating them. I've got reels of copper cable of all descriptions and a hydraulic crimper.

Got a load bank from GL looking for a manual, or some help.

LOL! It happens. I was going to go $505 on it, a bite at a time. Would you have gone further? I'll probably be making a trip to Abilene some time in the next few weeks. I can grab it then and it's welcome to hang out in my barn until you get a chance to come get it.

Or he's already one of us and he'll find this thread. Or he'll be posting in the "transportation needs" thread and I'll end up picking it up for him. But yeah, I suspect we'll be seeing it again.

It was you or David, I don't remember which. The important thing is that the TM is in the TM forum.

    Towning home a M1101 I won

I've towed a bunch of these thousands of miles from auctions. I had the brakes stick on one. Slamming it forward and backward resolved it. I usually drive a few miles and then feel up the bearings. I usually inflate the tires to 50psi at the first stop, also at the first opportunity.

2023 TX MV Rally Buy/Sell/Trade Thread

We're in KS for the moment. If we're still here in late March I'll try to make the drive in the M998 and attend. Things I have to bring if there's any interest: Safes of all descriptions, from 100lb single drawer safes up through >1200lb GSA weapons containers. Locking mechanisms can be...

I got interrupted and got outbid by one bid. I was going to chase it another couple of hundred. :(

If nothing else, it'd make a hell of a shop heater. Temps here are supposed to be single digits...

    2.5 or 5 ton truck?

My understanding is the OEM filters on the NHC250 filter to 10 microns, but some of the spin on filters go as fine as 3 microns.

    MPG vs HP Compromise

I have a similar experience with my M925. Changing the tire size changed the effective final drive ratio to the point that I need to control upshifts and downshifts manually. I only see 5th gear on the interstate.

    2.5 or 5 ton truck?

I admit I missed that you specified you were filtering down to 0.5 microns. Many filtration setups only go down to 10 or 5 microns. Here's what I could find regarding abrasive particle size distribution in used diesel motor oil. Used gas oil will be different.

    2.5 or 5 ton truck?

I said no such thing. I said some of the abrasive particles are less than 2 micron and that this should be considered when choosing fuel preparation methods. I don't know how much of it, if any, is less than 0.5 microns. But as a result of your comment I'll be finding out.
