Just turned over 19K on the DuraVee, 82 deg on Xmas eve, that's life in S TX.
Actually we did get 9" of snow on Christmas eve about 15 years ago or so, it was the first time in recorded history that it snowed on Christmas eve in Corpus Christi TX.
It is a "failsafe" system, so if you unplug the temp switch (ether wire) the fan should run, if not it is likely the TDM.
The temp switch turns OFF the fan when the contacts are closed.
Your truck probably had a generator at one time or a heater that was diesel powered, one feed one return so they just looped them when they removed the equipment
Changing to new half shafts made no difference in the popping, they were not changed for that reason but just the same.
In my case the popping is from the rear, which makes sense as the front diff. is not forced into as much "differential" action when making a turn as the rear.
The easiest way for me to tell is look at the oil pump drive on the back of the motor (where a distributor would be on a chevy gasser) it should have a tach sending unit bolted to it, if the bolt holding it down is on the left (drivers side) it is a 6.2L if it is on the right it is a 6.5L, also...
Every HMMWV I have owned does that so I don't worry about it too much.
19K on the DuraVee and there is no material on the magnetic plugs to show any problems
Some will say they should not do that and that may be true, but go to any Camaro forum and they complain about the "popping" from the...
Pull one of the wires going to a glow plug and put a volt meter on it, when the run switch is first switched on (engine cold) there should be 24V there for oh 8 seconds or so, then depending on what EESS box you have it will ether start to pulse the 24V or the voltage will be reduced...
Do not fill the system while running, that is a good way to lose a hand or some fingers.
Do you have to add any fluid or does it return to full when it cools.
Yes.
The military is not big on allowing branding on front line vehicles, I suspect as the HMMWV started to develop into a front line vehicle they dropped the logo, somewhere around 1990 or so.
But I could be wrong about the reason.
One is inst. feed (switched24V) one is inst. ground, if the last one is 2D then I would say that was for a tachometer, if it was 20 then that would be for a blackout light and would not make much sense.
where is it located?
