    What now?? Fuel pump?

Ok, gotcha. Took some stuff off of the engine so I can finally see. I'm going to go ahead and replace the fuel pump since I have one and I might as well if I'm doing the hose. There's very little rubber, except the short sections you mentioned. I'd like to replace it all, but I have a...

    What now?? Fuel pump?

Sounds good, thanks. Is there a cheat sheet for the fuel line sizes I should order if I'm re-doing everything from the tank to the big fuel pump?

    What now?? Fuel pump?

Thanks, very helpful. I'm way down here in GA so I'm not so sure how important the heater is. I've seen some filters with water separators, which might be important considering this truck has NO FUEL CAP! Just noticed that today. I'm not sure how the sensor is used. Speaking of Chinese, I...

    What now?? Fuel pump?

I finally found the reference you made! https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?36435-My-CUCV-spin-on-fuel-filter-mod&p=397732&viewfull=1#post397732

    What now?? Fuel pump?

I think that's where I'm headed. I just got out a spray bottle of degreaser and did an initial de-funking of the engine in preparation of pulling stuff off. This truck is sitting in my driveway near Atlanta, in 85 degree heat, so my patience is wearing very thin. Hopefully I can find a fuel...

    What now?? Fuel pump?

Filter base option Sorry I've been bombarding this forum today. After all the nonsense I've experienced today with the fuel lift system, I'm thinking about ripping old parts and fuel lines out, tossing them over my shoulder and replacing everything. I know this base is made in China (like...

    What now?? Fuel pump?

Thanks. I'm still getting a ton of air in the system. It looks like I need to tear the whole thing apart anyway since after the last attempt at starting it I noticed there is fuel on the ground. It's maddening. I guess I need to replace the hoses and I may just put on a screw on filter at...

    What now?? Fuel pump?

I hooked up my Mitivac to the small port on the fuel filter and that got a lot out. Still a bunch of bubbles and my batteries are hurting. Charging those now.

    What now?? Fuel pump?

OK, so I solved this mystery. I was starting to remove the old pump and I realized that the inlet line had no hose clamp on it! Put one on the the leak is gone. But now there's a bunch of air in the line and I can't seem to get it primed. I just started another thread about the possibility...

    What now?? Fuel pump?

Inline primer bulb I could swear I read a thread about using an inline marine primer bulb to prime the fuel system. Is there any reason this is a *bad* idea? Can it be left inline? Do it before or after the filter? I just bought a 5/8 marine bulb and I don't want to make a huge mistake.

    What now?? Fuel pump?

Thanks. That's what I ended up ordering. I ordered two actually. I've started getting two of everything for this truck. I assumed the $15 Airtex pump was probably junk. https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-43254-Original-Equipment-Mechanical/dp/B000C9MGMO

    What now?? Fuel pump?

Thank you friend! I just cancelled an order for the wrong pump. I don't need any more frustration. I'll take your advice and remove the alternator. The thought of fuel dropping on me from the bottom sounds like no fun. Is it possible to clamp off the fuel line to keep it from running...

    What now?? Fuel pump?

So I finally finished with the solenoid mod, rebuilt starter, rear bracket, etc on the m1009 that I recently purchased. In another thread I mentioned that it quit running a day after I test drove it and the starter was fried. After the fixes today the truck cranked up pretty easily. I let it...

M1009 Starter/Switch help.. need some pointers.

I can tell you for a fact that the new AC Delco relays made in China will sometimes fry themselves on first use. They simply aren't worth using. The solenoid from the doghead mod are now available on Amazon for $11. You can install one in 30 minutes or less, depending on if you solder the...

12v conversion - can any "points of failure" be removed?

I can't find a data plate anywhere on the starter!

12v conversion - can any "points of failure" be removed?

This is the "extra" starter. Looks like an imported POS.

12v conversion - can any "points of failure" be removed?

Here are some pics of the truck, btw. My girls told me that it's "ugly". My wife opened the driver's side door and snarled. Guess it's a man thing. EDIT: Oh, and my mother in law told me she found a rust spot on it. LOL!

12v conversion - can any "points of failure" be removed?

I'll do it. They might look at me a little strangely though.

12v conversion - can any "points of failure" be removed?

I'll pull it off this week and get it to the shop someone mentioned in this thread. I'll put the bracket on when I reinstall. I noticed that the mounting bolts look new. I read about them "stretching" but honestly I don't know if I need another set. Do people actually torque them to a spec...

12v conversion - can any "points of failure" be removed?

Thanks all. Some additional details. Both the started currently on the truck and the spare are gear reduction style. The rear bracket is missing. I have one on order. I did the doghead mod today. That lawnmower solenoid is now < $11 on Amazon. I'll get a spare. At any rate, it fixed the...
