The last of the crane mount drwgs. arrived last week so I made my own "Stiffening Arm-R.H." and "Stiffening Arm-L.H." Cut them out, got them welded up, primed and installed.
My Grove MHC977 crane should be here and mounted towards the middle of this month. Co-ordinating arrival in town of Grove...
Pattern of gouging appears to continue across fractured surface. If the gouging occured first then it's sharp, rough edges could have created stress risers.
Better shots of the fracture surface would help. If one area shows a darker tinge then it may have been cracked for some time and at some...
Gimpy and DM,
If the front and rear ratios are the same then the chance of damage should be minimal since the front axle is turning anyway due to the hubs being constantly "engaged". Only difference in "ratios" would be from unequal diameter tires due to tread wear. The damage comes from...
Side note on air shift t-cases;
If you lose traction in the rear, the first thought/temptation is to reach for the air shift control.
DO NOT shift into front wheel drive "on-the-fly". Come to a full stop-- THEN shift.
Laying on your back in the mud/snow/unmentionable stuff isn't where you want...
RE: markings
As long as you don't try to pass yourself off as an active duty military vehicle there shouldn't be any problem.
If you need to get on or off base to view or take possession of GL items you've purchased, just make sure you present insurance and proof of current CIVILIAN motor...
RE: Re: RE: Military Mustang project, what color for the int
Zinc Chromate is most appropriate for aircraft. Good choice for a Mustang project like yours with skeletonized interior.
383 Green for wheeled vehicles. this is probably the best choice if your exterior is going to be 383 green too...
CARC dust and fumes are NOT friendly. No sanding, grinding, burning or welding on CARC coated surfaces without proper respirator protection and a way to catch and contain the dust. In the motor pool we'd wire brush the vehicle to get rid of loose and flaking CARC, prime areas that are down to...
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Howdy From the Nose Art Chick.
Welcome to the herd.
When the dust settles, we'd like to see some of your artwork. MVs in the field almost all have some personal touchs somewhere-- drawn, painted, taped, even scratched into the dash by their crews.
If you want you may have...
Outstanding progress as always! You make us proud.
For the future; you can mix up a bottle of dishwashing liquid in a gallon of water and brush it on tires or other rubber surfaces prior to painting. The consistancy should be thicker than water so it doesn't run easily, but not so stiff as to...
A lot of states' breaking point between a class C license and something higher is whether the vehicle has two axles or three.
Two axles = pick-up truck; three axles = commercial vehicle.
You ALWAYS stipulate that the lease or rental contract be for vehicle AND driver/operator; and that the driver/operator is the only one to be at the controls at any and all times when it's running. But that still leaves them with the opportunity to have some actor, extra, any of a number of...
Elwenil's right. Getting it started should be no sweat. Getting it stopped is a WHOLE different story.
Remember; if the pintle on the Dodge isn't AT LEAST equal in height to the tow eyes on the deuce, the deuce's weight will be continually trying to lift the rear of the Dodge off the ground...
Transmission pans are designed with no drain plug 'cause they don't want you just swapping out the fluid. A fresh filter is a must and dropping the pan makes it an easy task and one that's hard to make excuses for not doing.
Another good item in your fuel system is a water separator. Keep an eye...
The baby HEMTT was capable of moving under it's own power but I found there's a lot of lash in the rear differential. Since I've bobbed the bed in preparation to installing the crane I figure now's the perfect time to swap out differentials while there's a big access hole there. Damon's still...
As always, your work and progress are second to no one.
Can't wait to see the next installment.
Do we need to come up with some more Oshkosh mudflaps? The air tanks look a little vulnerable right now.
PM me about the fenders you made a while back. My machinery isn't quite a flexible as yours...
