I'm wondering if the 24 volt electric conversions for the M38A1 would work on the M35. It would take 2, but that's fine with me. It would work like a modern wiper but look more original. It would also allow the windshields to open independently.
That is if the stem size is small enough for the...
One of the big equipment companies (I'm not mentioning names) modify all their M809 series trucks to air operate the front drive like the M35's. The way they explained it to me was they cut off all the air to the transmission/transfer case so the forward and reverse are both disengaged.
There is something about a 5 ton.
You really need a picture of it next to a deuce to see how big it is. The pictures of it alone don't do it justice.
There are more pix of his truck on Eastern's "Customer Trucks" page.
Nice ride!
I’m going to be replacing the injector seals and adjusting the valves in the XM817. It has the Cummins NHC250, normally aspirated. I have only found one other post about it, 8/5/2005, but there was no real information or pictures.
If anyone is interested in seeing it, I'll post pictures. If I...
What's the difference?
This may be a stupid question, but:
I've read all the speculation about the modern day streetability of the M35A2, or lack of (metal dash, single stage master cylinder, etc.) but what about the other trucks? the M817, for example, is basically the same design, just...
Here is an XM817 and an M35A2 earning their keep in a roofing project this fall. It's really handy when you can park a big truck right under the roof and slide the old shingles in.
Seems it would be handy to put stuff in when going to a rally. You could haul tents, coolers, etc. and not have to tie everything down. Even with the boom, there is still some space back there.
Looking pretty good. The engine looks nice and dry. I realize it has been cleaned so most of the oil and grease is gone, but it still would be showing some signs if there was a serious leak.
From what I can see of the brake backplates they look dry too. Even on a truck that has been well...
These are current pix of my M35A2 dash and windshields.
The left windshield pic is a little dark, I was using a camera that wouldn't compensate for back lighting.
The bird crap on and above the glow plug control decal is optional. I don't think all trucks have it, at least not at that exact...
I noticed it too, but I have to admit; it wasn't because of the chrome, it was because of the mirror mounts.
One of ours has mounts like those, I thought they were just something someone fabricated. Is that the case, or were they one type of the "factory" mounts?
Is that with, or without winch?
I realize it's probably not a problem in your case, but in the case of the OP, it would be better to have a deuce without a winch than to not have a deuce.
I recently had the same problem with my M817. It cost me 2 alternators, then I found this article. I replaced the switch and everything seems fine.
Thanks for the info.
Greetings from Kentucky.
I've been reading posts on SS for quite some time and joined a little while ago. This would be my first post.
I saw in another post where someone said "start with a 5-ton." I did just that. I have had a 1970 M817 wo/w for several years. Now I find myself with a 1966...
