    Finally got my deuces home!

Thanks to John Waller for delivering them after a lot of hangups and plans that didn't quite work out. Here are my accidental wins from GL a few months ago. One runs and drives and is in EXCELLENT condition. No issues whatsoever that I've found so far. The hood is dented in like someone...

Just Put On the Front Lockouts!

So it's purpose is to minimize moving parts on the front axle when you don't want 6x6 (or 4x4 for bobbers). Kinda like a Ford 4x4 with the lockout hubs and the 4wd shift in the cab, correct? I can see the purpose now.

Just Put On the Front Lockouts!

Forgive my ignorance, but if you have an airshift for the front axle, what's the purpose of the lockouts on it?

Looking to borrow a deuce towbar - MD

I'm wondering if anyone in the MD area has a towbar I could borrow to do a possible recovery from SC.

    Stump vs Deuce

Do you really want to use grade 8 bolts? The rivets were soft enough to shear and possibly save him from more extensive damage. Grade 8 bolts might not be so forgiving. Something softer might be a better choice.

    started the BOB today

I have a small bench sized drill press. I will probably clamp that to the frame with bar clamps and use the drill press to drill the holes.

    dumb brake question

Get a high pressure air tank and a regulator and supply yourself some air that way. I've got a 4500 psi tank somewhere in my garage.

    Bobbed Deuce Mudding!!!

Very cool, thanks for the pictures. I've always wondered how a bobber with big tires did off-road vs. a stock deuce with big tires.

Best way to lift front suspension???

Probably cheaper yet would be to find a suitable set of springs from another truck, either military or not, that can carry a similar weight yet are arced more so you can get your lift.

Best way to lift front suspension???

Hmmm, the new springs for the front end do sound like a really good choice if you can spare the money for them.

Saw an air braked M35a2 yesterday

As a few others in this thread have already pointed out, the biggest issue with the deuces is the single circuit brake system. If you simply break it into front and rear circuits with two separate reservoirs, then you can have a critical failure of one circuit and still have some braking enough...

Saw an air braked M35a2 yesterday

I personally prefer air brakes on large trucks mostly for the parking/emergency brake feature. If the air system suffers a catastrophic failure, your truck is going to come to a very sudden halt and you won't be going anywhere. Hydraulic systems don't have that feature. If you lose your...

Saw an air braked M35a2 yesterday

I'd love to have air brakes on a deuce...but, the way they are setup on that one makes them way too vulnerable for off road. Mostly I like the parking brake side of air brakes because you know once you set it, it's not going anywhere unless your rear axle falls off. I suppose a decent...

6 bolt to 10 Bolt wheel adapters

HEMMT rims are 20", no? 22.5" rims are far more common for trucks, so you can very easily find more options or emergency replacements at just about any truck stop.

6 bolt to 10 Bolt wheel adapters

Yep, if the rear hubs are flipped you wouldn't need to tap them. If they are not flipped, you don't really have an option. I haven't taken a peek at the fronts yet.

6 bolt to 10 Bolt wheel adapters

I think Option 1 would be the best. As mentioned already, once you fit a 10 lug rim on there, you can put just about every kind of tire available to a 6 lug rim onto a 10 lug rim so there isn't a real need for going back to stock. Let me ponder this a little more tonight. I may have another...

    shopping for a snatch block

I just read the entire thread and learned something. I didn't know that since the source of the pull was the load, that it doubled the pulling power. Very interesting. Now, I don't have a winch (yet), so I haven't read what the cable is rated for or the shackles on the front of a deuce...
