I put about 10 gallons of UMO in the 5 ton today, topped off the tnak with diesel it seemeid to run fine. Its actually a 6-71 detroit in it.

m139 series truck with a 5 speed, the one with the 4th and 5th gears revered. I drianed the oil ouit today and it was a reddish color, almost like atf, but almost as thick as 80-90 gear lube. what was the stuff and what do i replace it with? I put 80-90 in it for now, hoe thats right.....let me...

How much oil do the diffs on the 5-ton take to fill? I want to drain and refill all the diffs, the trans and the transfer case. Does anyone know how much each takes by any chance?

RE: UMO the filters on the motor only filter to 10 micron, so filtering down to that would be good enough?

RE: UMO used motor oil is in higher and higher demand these days. I run an automotive shop here in KAnsas City and we have people fighting over buying our used motor oil! The last time I sold it I got $1.35 per gallon for the stuff!!!! I can remember it wasnt but a few years ago taht you paid...

What are anyones thoughts about using waste oil in a 6-71 detroit? I have several hundred gallons of the stuff that I can use. I was goping to filter some, and cut it 50/50 with diesel. Not sure that the motor not being a multi fuel and also being a 2 stroke how it would work. What do ya'll think?

oh, it has a soft top on it now too, took the hard top off and put on a painted vinyl soft top for now. a custom canvas soft top will go on after the cab is stretched out.
