These are no different than a civilian blazer of the era. If you can't do the TM try a Chiltons manual at the library. You can photocopy the section you need. They really are quite simple, probably why no step by step.
The aluminum lights were used on everything that used that style of light. Not all of them had LED modules for the BO function. They are still out there in quantity. The screws will corrode and seize up. As mentioned, make sure that the seller shows pics of the screws removed and anti seize them...

Once started, you do need 12v to hold open the shutoff solenoid. I do understand that this isn't part of the starting circuit. I now wonder if thenflat battery is what cooked the upper alternator.
Lucas oil had these little display dodads that had gears in it that you crank. These were designed to let you see hownlube climbs a gear abd how theirs climbed better. It's facinating and amazing at how well gear oil can climb straight cut gears.
