Don't know about the bows, but the drivetrain is the same as the M211. All M211 and M135 series trucks were made by GMC and all had the 302 engine and hydramatic trans.
Can't really tell from the pictures, but if the body is rusted out and the engine needs work, I don't think you're getting much for your money. Just my two cents.
M215, The winch and winch bumper look to be in near perfect condition! Suspension looks good, looks like you've got the makings of a good looking track. Good luck and send pics of progress.
Frank, I'd be more than happy to go get your halftrack, but then I might get lost and end up back home...
The problem with the tires being too close together isn't stones getting caught but the sidewalls at the bottom where the tire squats. If the sidewalls are running against each other, heat builds up and one or both will explode.
I've wanted a halftrack since I was a little kid watching Combat on tv. For some reason or other, I've always missed out [too late, too expensive, etc.]. Sounds like a good idea to me, just wish I had some pictures to send. Good luck and hope things work out for you.
With all the work involved, wouldn't it be easier to just get a multifuel or diesel truck? Sounds like you want something reliable [60-65 with 52" tires]. A 5 ton with a 6602 is at least 45 years old. An 800 series is about half that age. Again, just my two cents.
Sad thing is, there's plenty of scrap dealers who will buy them. If GL sells in volume to scrappers, it's a lot less hassle for them. Granted, it'll be less profit per vehicle but they'll sell more vehicles. I think they're intentionally phasing us out of the picture. Just my two cents...
Now that's something you don't see very often. It's not only a tanker but it's a Utica Bend besides! I hope you can get it restored as is [tanker]. Sorry I can't help you with the parts you need, but I'm sure somebody out there has something.
Usually if they leak, it's just some crap stuck in the seat, and like was mentioned, just hit it again and it'll clear out. I've never seen one fail completely.
The dump and the tractor had the short wheelbase. They were a tough looking truck. Great job you're doing, hope to see more of it as you go. There aren't too many restored GMC's around.
