You really don't need an installed boost gauge, just hook one up for calibration and if you need to diagnose a problem.
PS you will be bummed out every time you look at a 30psi gauge, 15psi gauge will make you think "yea I'm really doing something"
One day I should have stayed home.......
Went unto Corpus to pick up some sheared steel for the FAV project, 38F raining
Had lunch at a really nice BBQ place, went home, put on some light gloves and unloaded the steel, managed to let one of the 1/8" pieces slip.....
dang thing was SO sharp it...
That is fairly hard to screw up, especially when building an engine on a stand, it looks really old, maybe they did not even change it?
how many miles did you think your motor had?
Or maybe they are farther down on the left side, IIRC all of the detroits had that number, I think the one you are looking for has some letters in it.
You likely have a GEP.
That snowman looks damaged on the feed side, such a simple thing I wonder how they screwed it up, I think the numbers you are looking for are on the other side of center
The waste gate is super simple, it is just a spring pushing against the "valve" in the turbo, when the back pressure gets to the point it overcomes the spring pressure it bypasses the exhaust turbine, as long as the valve is not stuck in the exhaust elbow it will work.
Here is a link to...
I rebuilt my cartridge with NOS shaft and bushings but could not find a NOS compressor wheel, so i installed an aftermarket wheel, it has a longer nose than a stock wheel, lots of people sell the same dang wheel, but there is one company that calls it "wicked" total hokum I believe now, I...
I looked around and found a few NOS parts online, I ended up using a Chicom "wicked wheel" compressor as I could not find any NOS wheels.
The turbocharger is one of the most basic mechanical devices, you will probably get good service from the ones available now and I think it would be...
I rebuilt mine with a new shaft, bushings and compressor wheel, it seemed to have an excessive amount of play until I turned it over and filled it with oil so they are going to have a noticeable amount of play, you may as well replace it, just remember all the cartridges being sold now are from...
The casting numbers on the rear of the block right in front of the transmission will tell you if the block is GEP, the intake looks to have a GEP part number but in a rebuild that may not mean anything.
Once you get the turbo unbolted and the clamps out of the way put some up pressure on the...
Once the waste gate controller is removed the waste gate should swing freely, it was closed as you can see where it was contacting the port, ether way would not cause the issues you are having.
The turbo runs on bushings there will be some play for oil clearance but 1/8" seems a little...
I had not thought about AAMCO in years :ROFLMAO: , never went there that they did not try and sell me a transmission, even the time I brought my moms car in for the first service after she bought a rebuilt transmission from them, boy they sure were crawfishing when they figured out it was one of...
The RAPCO 383 does dull over time, not that it is bad to begin with, I love RAPCO, they ship fast, the rattle cans match the gallons perfectly, lays out nice mixed as directed, I am by no means a painter but it is some of the best paint I have used.
You can update the steering to A2 components, IIRC you will need the idler arm, steering gear arm, tie rod center sections (tie rod ends are the same) and the drag link.
I got the engine in, covered in the other thread.
The wife and I filled and bled the clutch and brakes Saturday, it went really well, I expected to have al lot of problems bleeding the rear brakes with the Neal cutting brake but it did not seem to be a problem and fingers crossed the Neal is...
