    M1010 blinker issue

The black wire leaving the headlamp is a ground. It needs grounded. And have you checked the bulb socket. It has a thin metal piece that makes a ground. It should extend into te bulb socket. Famous for breaking off. Report back. Good Luck.

    M1010 blinker issue

Check at the coolant overflow tank. Ground. Also check the flasher. The socket in the left front park lamp could be dirty or have a poor ground. Good Luck. Report Back.

    Glow Plug Questions

I get by for 25+ years with the stock glow plug system. I have changed thousands of CUCV glow plugs in hundreds of CUCV's. I experienced 20 at most that broke off in the engine. The only extraction tool I ever used was a vise grips, spray lube, a crow bar and in the past a lot of cursing. I have...

Resurfacing Cylinder Head or Not To

In those cases, have used the thicker head gasket or not bothered with it? To be honest I was unaware of thicker head gaskets. I just used the new Felpro head gaskets (unaware of thickness) and new head bolts everytime. I am not sure why you would want thicker head gaskets. Never gave it much...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Today I went out with all good itentions of working on my CUCV project. About as far as I got was the barn. I looked at the driveway and thought it is going to snow soon and the leaves are knee deep at the doors and in the cormers. I did all the leaf clean up and went to a sale at 1100 AM. My...

Resurfacing Cylinder Head or Not To

I resurfaced a lot of cylinder heads in my life. If the cylinder head comes off it goes to the machine shop. I have encountered many cracked heads on every type I ever worked on. My last top end on a 6.2 the heads were perfect and just needed resurfaced. I have taken 3-4 sets of 6.2 heads to he...

    Wheel color question

All CUCV's had Flat Black wheels when they were assembled at GM Truck in Flint. I was working at a Chevrolet dealer when the CUCV's were first delivered. A few local dealers also were involved in warranty and delivery of the vehicles. 1 in general was in Jonestown and they had a brand new M1009...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Last night was a night for gathering parts and evaluating/comparing which ones I should use on my current build. I was working on the tail lights. I had a set of taillight housings that were on the truck. They were knock offs and looked like scrap. I scrapped them and looked for another OEM set...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Tonight the weather was fair outside. Not warm but not freezing. I had the Wife and a friend help me get the front bumper and brush guard back on the M1009. I used grade 8 1/2" carriage bolt. I scuffed them, cleaned them and painted them flat black. About 45 minutes and complete. Next I want to...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

You can make your own glow plug harness. I made a few for snow plow trucks. The wiring was overheated from corrosion on glow plugs. I made a new harness and used 5/16" fuel line and encased the glow plug and connection in dielectric grease at the glow plug. The harness is protected by a large 30...

Fuel lne from lift pump replacement

No such Luck. I went out and looked 3 engines and no fuel line. All my parts engines have the heads removed thus the fuel line. And I have replaced a few so I may have used them up. I am sure someone here would have an extra one. The spacer is an easy fix. Black steel pipe nipple cut to length...

Fuel lne from lift pump replacement

I received your PM. I am going out to the field to look for a fuel line. Also the Gen 2 block to alternator spacer is a common missing piece. I will see if I have one. I make them from pipe nipples and just cut them to length. I made a few recently. If it fell while you were working onit. Look...

M1008 Glass run weatherstrip and felts

https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?137671-CUCV-head-gasket-head-or-change-engine-survey/page14 I was able to buy new GM window runs in 2015. I used a 1991 Chevy K5 Blazer as the application. They may be discontinued now. Good Luck. I will be looking into this soon also.

Fuel lne from lift pump replacement

Did you remove the upper Gen 2 bracket when you were trying to get the complete fuel line out? And I am not sure what plastic/rubber piece you are referring to. I would NOT use a rubber hose. I would locate a replacement steel line. Used is fine or bend one to fit. Was that flare nut chewed up...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

The rear bumper brackets and D ring bracket area can be a very complicated puzzle putting it back together without any to look at. I was fortunate and found a set still partially assembled. I think I would have been lost without for a while. I had the side braces already mounted when I...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

This is where I started 2 years ago November 17, 2017 . After sitting around wrecked for 10 years the time had come to fix it or junk it. This was is where I was at last November 2018. Today I went out at 0730 and just came back in to scrub some rubber parts and get a snack. It is coming along...

    unknown front axle spindle nut

From what I see that is all one nut. There should be a snap ring in front. Can't see from the picture. I would remove the snap ring. Now in the slot of the spindle there should be a lock block. Using a punch of socket against the 6 ears of the nut. I would lightly tap the nut counter clockwise...
