well replaced all the glow plugs with new ones today.
Good and bad news I guess. good news is I found another bad plug as I tested them all as I pulled them out. none of the plugs showed any signs of being wet.
bad news is it still smokes but only about half as much as it was.
not sure if...
ok thanks I will do that.
checked the cold advance today and getting 24ish volts there with the wait light on.
also checked one plug on both sides of the engine and still getting 24v there.
will update when I get the new plugs in.
no only replaced the bad one but have 3 other new OEM ones still in the box. I should see if I can just find another set of 4 and replace them all not worth pulling them all and putting power to them individually to test.
Added: I ordered a another set of 4 and will just replace all of them...
ya wasn't the cat still smokes the same.
I ohmed the plugs ealier but I didn't check to make sure I was getting 24v to all of them just one spot on the harness.
well finally cooled down enough I was able to take the cat pipe off and modify that. Was a little tricker getting the exhaust out being pushed up into the tunnel but I just used the torch to put a nice bench on my wrench and then it went pretty smooth.
I'll have to start it in the morning and...
well glow plugs came today so I replaced the bad one real quick and started it for the first time today. still smokes a lot maybe a tad better, haven't had time to test anything else
thanks for the tip that's a easy one to test I'll unbolt it and see if it starts better. also I would just remove the cat and muffler don't need them in my state.
ok I will look into that then but I assume it's working. engine is extra rattley for the first 2mins then all of a sudden it gets quite which I assume is the advance shutting off.
lol I figured you guys would catch that got a little to ansie.
ya it died on its own. normally if started everyday it starts just smoking a lot now, always starts better with more rpm tho.
I have drained the fuel filter and there was no water and the air filter has been cleaned.
went to start it today has been sitting for over 24hrs.

didn't want to start without giving it some throttle then started right up.
ya for the engines of that time I think everyone wishes they would have put the cummins in there but I'm sure it was more about money then performance.
Guy at work has a 94 I drove the other day has 639,000 miles on it and still seemed to run good. Only down side is it didn't start the greatest but it's got one broken glow plug and the rest are china plugs.
I wouldn't say the Detroit is terrible motor but at the same time I don't think anyone...
ya probably not the right way to do it but just mentioned it because that's what I had to do the first time after adding killmat behind my seal. Now it's still tight but doesn't require force to get it to lock down.
Just in the drive way, gets started and drove around town almost everyday. Went to take a video of the smoke this morning and it wasn't all that bad. Started it again this after noon and there was probably twice as much smoke as this morning.
I did some looking last night and it does seem the...
Thats a lot like mine it's a 91 that they redid in 2012. Even has the tag like yours on it. Makes me wonder at a certain point say 20 years old if they undergo a upgrade or get rid of kind a deal.
Pretty positive it's not the glow plug just from the amount of smoke but your right might as well replace it to rule it out 100% I have 4 other diesels but no other experience with a humvee maybe they are super sensitive to dropping one plug? I'll try to get a video of it in the morning.
OEM...
My humvee has started to smoke on start up quite a lot for the first 3 seconds and then cleans up and is fine.
Things I've checked so far:
Glow plugs have 22.9v going to them when the Wait light is on.
All glow plugs Ohm good but 1 is bad (open) on the rear drivers side cylinder.
Vent line and...
