SpecialT is correct about the tire sizes. I'm not aware of a 12x20 out there, but would check the Michelin and Goodyear web sites. I observe that the G177's almost touch depending on load and tire pressure. I imagine that a 12x20 mounted with this wheel offset would cause them to rub one...
I prefer the 365/80R20 with the XZL tread. These are the same size as the 14.5R20 used on the M35A3 trucks. You can install them and run chains on them if need be while that is impossible with the 395s.
I get many of my fasteners at Tacoma Screw also. It's been on my to-do list for a week to go there before work, yet haven't gotten it done yet. I'm in the middle of one of those "100 things" events for my truck.
Welcome aboard! I hope you take some time out to check the brakes. There's a great thread on brake lines and parts. Also, Erik's is here on the Left coast and typically ships the same day you place an order.
Why not install a simple pull switch with a tassel in the left forward top of the cab like in commercial trucks and use that for the second set of horns?
Good pics Clinto! The only think I disagree with is the ability to mount the spare with G177s. Perhaps your mount is positioned too far forward or back? My 365's (same size as the 14.5x20) are the same diameter and I can shoehorn one into the spare mount.
I agree. The head on that pin is quite thick and the heat of the weld for that little chain or a small rod loop to hold it will not go deep enough to matter (fits the definition of a tack weld).
I think the switch to emissions is a tangent and not sure what value it has here. I'm all about learning more about each trucks history. There are a multitude of reasons that engine blocks could have been replaced or new engines installed. Mine is a White marked TD for thick deck. This seems...
I did a LTL shipment of MRAP wheels and they absolutely soaked me on the overweight issue. You might want to have a conversation with the carrier or even have them quote it for a couple estimates for weight.
Early signs? It looks to me like it is falling apart. Did I miss something? FYI I recently picked up an AD-9 per Rusty advice from a wrecking yard for $20. I'm investigating the best place to mount it as I have time.
Hey thanks Tracer,
I was not aware that Monroe 66104 is the seat shock absorber and Monroe 34787 is the front shocks.
Please let us know if you find a difference in ride quality or drive quality. Also, I find my seat will sometimes top out and bottom out on rough bounces. Have seriously...
Sorry, I did not think of the reader when I wrote that. I assumed everyone had been through some training. Ooops! When I took mechanics (chassis semester) we were taught to disconnect one end of a shock or strut and test how much force it takes to move it in each direction. We'd compare new...
When I got my truck it was doing a little cupping on the front tires. I pulled one of the shock mounts and found them to be very difficult to move, so I called them good. I found the toe to be in about 1/16-1/8 if memory serves. I gave it a bit more toe-in and haven't noticed any issue since...
Clean very good and solder. If it is nice and clean the solder will flow into the joint and be stronger than it was before. I've observed these radiators have a tiny bit of solder in every joint
Order a new flasher from Erik's Surplus and be done with it. If you haven't checked out your brakes yet get some of those parts too and check everything out. I replaced all wheel cylinders, master cylinder and air pack in my truck. The wheel cylinders had an unbelievable amount of rust in them.
That's too bad, sorry for your loss. Are you sure the piston oiler(s) are spraying on the back side of that cylinder? I'm curious as to why only that one cylinder.
