We been using magnetic heaters on our backhoe and loaders for close to 20 years without any issues . They work good on diesel and hydraulic tanks as well , the machines like warm hydraulic oil . With the magnetic heater you can also put them on the water jacked of the block.

I would check with your local D.O.T. before grinding the drums ,most likely won't pass inspection . Could also be a liability issue if there is a accident The manufacturer built the drums that size for a reason.

A .The differentials ARE vented .
B. If equiped with a fording kit and fording kit is turned on it put a low air pressure in the differential to keep water out ,it does not push grease into the brakes.
If the D turbo was bad I could see replacing it with a C if that's what your looking for , but can't see taking a good running truck apart just to swap for a C turbo . I'm a firm believer in if it isn't broke don't fix it.
