One thing I would look at is the load rating 1700 x 4 = 6800 - Curb Weight, 5200 lbs + occupants , fuel ,extra weight of larger tires cargo ect. Your going to max the weight rating out quick.

Just don't bid more than your willing to lose. Some trucks may need batteries others may have a hole in the block . The only way to even get a idea is to preview in person . Auctions are a crap shoot.

And have probably been in a warehouse or laying outside for 5 to 10 years before being surplused out.

That right there is reason not to drive this truck . It is something that needs to be addressed now not later. What happens when the it gels and the brakes fail on the highway , the person it bites could end up dead . But hey we didn't have time to fix it and we saved a couple dollars . Edit...
