For one they won't reach that far. You would need to have hoses with glad hands on each end to attach from deuce to the connections at the front fenders. Keep in mind if the 818 brakes fail or a tire blows ect, you would be towing a 21k lb vehicle with a 14k lb vehicle. I wouldn't do it for that...
I don't know that I would try an initial start of a Cummins with waste oil in the fuel. I have heard of people using waste oil in 5 tons, but they aren't really a multi fuel engine like the Deuce. It may make starting more difficult.
Not a bad looking truck at all. Funny how the ones you don't expect to be much turn out to be the best trucks. I bought one off GL with intentions that it would basically be a parts truck. Turned out it is in better shape then my first Deuce, and just needs a fresh coat of paint.
I guess it could be done, but you would have to watch how close you get the fifth wheel to the cab. You also would have to use springs that could take the weight of a trailer safely. I personally wouldn't do it, but I am more traditional and am not big on the bobbing idea.
That really sucks, but the sad reality is the scrap prices are claiming a bunch of trucks like this. I know a scrap yard that had about twenty deuces, most all were runners, that got cut up for scrap when the prices jumped this year. Unfortunately he could get as much for them as scrap metal as...
The ride was a real pain in the arse, literally. But now that it's home I like riding in it. Took it to bobtail the thresherman's show over to Federalsburg Saturday. Had the daughter strapped in her car seat with us, and she seemed to like it to. My girlfriend didn't care for the way we entered...
I agree with WM here. If it were just around the block I would tow it with the 818, but not that distance. If you have it off base and are not on a time schedule, you should be able to find someone looking for a load after they deliver to the base. PM me and I will give you the contact info of a...
Unless you work at a diesel shop, let a pro rebuild the pump. If you rebuild it yourself a pro will still need to calibrate it, and that will cost just about as much. I have a friend who runs a shop, and he said he could rebuild the pump, tune it, and give me a little more power for 250 bucks...
Do a search in the cucv section using the words 'injection pump' and/or 'IP' in the titles. You should find a bunch of info that way. These trucks are all going to have old injection pumps unless you find one that someone recently had rebuilt. Just figure it is a good possibility you will need...
First I have heard of two transmissions. They should all have turbo 400 trannys as far as I know. I prefer to have the original 24v system in tack, mostly because I don't want to buy something someone improperly converted to 12v. Injector pumps and rust are probably the biggest issues in the...
Plus 1 for Eriks. TNJ Murray is only an hour drive for me, but I usually find a better deal from Eriks. I have heard Murray does well on brake shoes though. You may want to call Maryland Truck Salvage in Easton. They may turn brake drums.
Did you get an email a while back about a M880 for sale? I did get a mail out of the blue saying a member was selling a m880 and said to email for details. I don't remember the users ID, as I just deleted it. I thought it seemed like someone looking for email addresses or some sort of scam.
If it is still running good, not knocking, and oil pressure is good, I would think you are ok. I wouldn't keep running it like that. A friend of mine ran his 813 like that, and it resulted in a bunch of bent push rods. Luckily it didn't stress the bottom end to fail yet.
About 7pm would have been on 70 somewhere between Breezewood and Hagerstown. I think it was 8 when I made my last rest stop around Hagerstown exit of 70.
