I just installed an "8 Ball" shift knob and I believe I drilled and tapped for 5/16-18. Remove the knob and throw that size nut on there, just to be sure.

Shocks are usually considered chassis items where I come from. Engine, clutch, transmission, transfer case, drive shaft, and axles would be "drive train".
My preference is a Block Heater, and not the Freeze Plug type either...why invite another possible leak? Dipstick Heaters have never impressed me either and I have read too many horror stories about Magnetic Pan Heaters. For me, a Kat's 11619, 600 Watt, 3/4" NPT., works extremely well.

Your "Buddy" probably should not have pressured washed the fabric heater air ducts, they can't handle that type of water force. You said you found a coolant leak, where did the coat of oil come from?
