I know the feeling, Nathan, having grown up in Europe. But that didn't keep me from buying (then current) magazines to get ideas from.
There's a good chance, I think, that you could find someone selling their old collection on eBay over there.
Nathan, you may want to go to your local library. If they have Four Wheeler Magazine, look through the 1980 through 1990 issues.
There should be hundreds of photos of lifted Chevys, ranging from two inches to ridiculous, an dozens of installation stories.
Okay, they're 255/85R16s, which is nominally just a hair over 33 inches. On 8-inch rims, by the way, so the hub still sticks out a little past the wheel.
I put 35x12.50R15s on 10" wheels on my first M1009, to be able to drive the freeways around L.A. Sure wasn't the best on the 8-mile stretch of 8% grade along the way home, though. Okay, I think an M1009 is a slug with stock tires, and it was really bad with 35s.
A turbo, 700R4, and 4.10 gears...
I know, and it makes me wish I remembered the tire size on the uncut M1008. I think those tires are about 33-1/2, on late model offset wheels.
Anyway, they do cause rub - on the drag link link, at full lock. But only when the tire chains are installed. I'll look at the size tomorrow.
With 35s on "normal" offset wheels, this is how much I cut on a 3/4-ton Suburban.
And I think that a lift is largely irrelevant, unless the bump stops are lowered accordingly, or the springs so stiff that they don't really move much.
Nick, if it makes you feel any better, today the (formerly) parts SEE stopped running again. The strainer had about 3/4-inch worth of "black sand" in it.
Looks like that tank has to come out, one way or another.
Yeah, those are better than nothing. They (I?) are nowhere near precise enough for what I like to achieve, though.
In an ideal world I could pick up dirt and leave no more than a 1/4-inch, without disturbing the grass.
Every year I get a little better with the tractor, and snow removal is good...
Being that I tend to use 2WD in anything I drive until 4WD becomes a near necessity, that's how I've always done it with the SEE.
Not that much dirt has been moved or scooped up with it since it's much more of a hand full than doing the same task with the tractor. One lever instead of two, hydro...
Several times? There's been times when I stopped counting pump strokes at 100. Which inspired me to plumb in an electric pump, and later why I pressurize the tank.
You may have a simple air leak at the tank or strainer at this point, that's all it takes to require lots of pumping. Often with no...
There could be another reason for a non-starter. I just remembered unscrewing the wingnut on the air cleaner, for whatever reason, while the engine was running.
That lid practically had to be pried off because of the negative pressure inside. Made me wonder if that is how it's supposed to be, or...
Yeah, I've never seen anything quite like it on a vehicle, with that kind of coloration. And it's one of half a dozen such spots on that car.
If you recall me putting up a shade roof by the garage last year, this photo is of the post that faces southwest, which is where the rain usually comes...
Remember when we discussed rust and low oxygen levels on another thread, Ahab?
It may indeed only be a matter of time, but this car had a smaller lack of paint in this spot when I bought it locally in 2010. It has been parked outside ever since, and is driven when there's salt and crap on the...
While I've never used it on the SEE, I have an adapter from quick attach to 3-point. Of course, it requires a quick attach conversion on the SEE's loader in the first place.
With the tractors I've used it a few times to pull snow away with a box blade, and to move implements around with, which...
Nathan, I don't know why it wouldn't fit. But you won't get the same amount of lift out of it because of the increased weight. More importantly, it may not last as long if the springs aren't made of quality material.
Nathan, you may be able to simplify things by not looking for M1009 suspension, but a K-5 with the 6.2 diesel instead.
It's fully understandable that suspension companies haven't recognized the M1009, I think. The diesel K-5 wasn't overly common, so you may want to include the 6.2 Suburban in...
