Leece-Neville Alternator TM I not sure if this is the model you have, but here is an alternator TM for your perusal.

The last Deuce alternator I removed had terminals, I removed the nuts and took the wires off. If yours are a soldered connection, yes, you will have to desolder them. The Leece-Neville brand alternator has their own TM, I'll search around and see if I can find it.

I'm confused. You spoke of an inverter, which makes AC out of DC. A modified sine wave is an AC voltage. A converter steps up or down DC current, a transformer steps up or down AC current. I am assuming you are speaking of a Deuce, because of your screen name. On the later generators, there is a cover on the top that must be removed and the wires are attached underneath. Earlier units have a plug to disconnect. You should not have to cut anything to remove either one. Have you...

Are magnets acceptable under the "fastening requirements" in your Ohio Revised Code? I think most states would require some sort of mechanical fastening. Car dealerships probably get away with the magnetic attachment.

Go to the top of the page under Technical Manuals, download an Operator's Manual for a Deuce and read through it. The issue you describe comes up about once a month and is covered in that TM.
